Playback problems

Hello and I hope anyone out there can help me.
I have a newish computer.
I transfered some cartoons and stuff from my old Hard drive.
They played-back fine on windows media player.

I have downloaded dvd shrink and divx and now I cannot play these back on any media player (not sure if its these though), the cartoons look like the contrast is missing, a couple of other films have horizontal lines across the picture.

Looking at microsoft website, I started mplayer2 from start ....run....
(this is were it gets wierd) sometimes it plays ok, sometimes it doesn't, also sometimes when it doesn't you can make the picture bigger/smaller and it plays ok and vic-versa.

I can watch a dvd direct and its ok and if i watch clips from websites its ok.

Does anyone have any ideas its driving me crazy?

Re: Playback problems

I don't think DVD Shrink or DivX is to blame. Have you installed any multi-codec packs or filter packs lately?

Re: Playback problems

Having checked out what codecs are and searched my computer and the internet.
I found I also have installed quick time recently and a lot of codecs are in that. So I have uninstalled quick time but to no avail I may have to re-install.
I have downloaded g-spot and tested which play and which dont.

Divx 5 plays
Divx 4 and Divx 3 doesn't
Xvid doesn't

There are also a couple were it comes up n.a and they play.

Anyone any suggestions????????????

Re: Playback problems

Download and install a new codec pack. Try here:
http://www.free-codecs.com/
See if freshly installing the codecs brings things back to life.
Worth a try, if you have the bandwidth and internet time.

Re: Playback problems

Thanks for the replies.

I decided to try and update my driver for my video card after reading other problems in the forum and it did the trick.

Hope this thread helps someone in the same boat as me.
