Password protect a external hard drive
how can I go about password protecting a usb external hard drive when I connect it to a pc? what are good softwares for this?

I suggest TrueCrypt as an option; it's freeware.

With TrueCrypt you can either encrypt the whole drive, or create a container file for a virtual drive that will be encrypted.

I use TrueCrypt for my flash memory drives.
