| I've been currently ( september 2006) searching the web for Optorite. The searches show it as www.optorite.com but obviously is not functional. I have difficulty with the Optorite DD0405 drive. It will only read and write dvd's but not the cd's (neither read nor write). nero shows it as supposedly functional for all discs cd & dvd but will not function in the cd mode ( read or write). The drive shows in Windows XP only as a Generic drive. So , I suspect that the firmware must need to be updated to show it as Optorite rather than Generic. If anyone out there has a suggestion about this dilemma; I would certainly appreciate you suggestions. Even a hint as to find the information about the Optrite company would be helpful! Thanks! |

| Looks like they went out of business because www.optorite.com doesn't exist anymore. Usually when a site goes down or out of business I see sedparking advertisements . My solution to you is buy a new DVDRW drive. They have one at Newegg.com 18x Samsung burner. =) $33.99 price to what anyone can afford. Link Majority of DVDRW drives are very affordable now and are priced around $40.00 and less (except for Plextors). Happy buying! |

| Go and buy a new drive...the prices have dropped to ridiculous levels. In Australia you can buy a brand new Pioneer drive for around $45 ($33.75 US).

| From what I understand Optorite takes a specific Sanyo model and turns them into external drives. AccessTek Inc takes the same Sanyo model and turns them into internal drives. You'll notices that on the rpc firmware site both Optorite and AccessTek Inc have the same firmware but Optorite firmwares end in "E" and AccessTek Inc firmwares end in "I". Maybe your problem with the drive is that it's using an external firmware for an internal drive? So it could be getting instructions designed for usb or firewire interface instead of IDE ATAPI interface?

| the lens could probably require cleaning. Use a q-tip and rubbing alcohol (the higher the percentage on the rubbing alcohol the better) and when you wipe the lens be very light with the pressure because even a q-tip can scratch the drive lens. Also the laser's ribbon cable might need to unplug, power up, power down, replug, power up and could get it to reset the laser back to working again. Please do a search on "Power Calibration Error" in the cdfreaks forums and look for a post by me. I made a detailed recap of my experience doing this to bring 3-5 various optical drives back to life. An Xbox DVD-ROM, 2 Plextor PX-716A, and I think another model drive too.
