ok, how do i check the NEC 2510a firmware?
and how do i check the DMA of the DVD? in the device managaer, i see the primary and secondary IDE channel, and there all is 'DMA if available', but in the DVD/CD-ROM drive section of the device manager, when i hit the NEC 2510, i can't see the DMA, it look totally different this window...
so how can i check the DMa of the dvd burner?
Thanks,
Roy

In device manager goto cd/dvd drive and click on properties then goto the details tab and you should see something like this
ide\cdrom_nec_dvd_rw_nd-2510a_______________2.18 this last number is the firmware.
The first window you pulled up should have said whether dma is enabled under current transfer mode.
If you still have problems then you will find using the search facility as suggested by The Taxman in the sticky on this forum "Helpful tips for all". I found this an invaluable source of information and help when I first came here hence my low posting rate.

What's most likely happening is that the firmware doesn't recognise the LG media so it will default to a very slow speed.
With Nero's CD-DVD Speed (found under toolkit in Start Smart) you can get the Media ID (MID) for the LG DVDs. Use the disc info option.

It'll also tell you the write speeds for the media/burner combination.

You'll also see the firmware version after ND-2501A in the drive selection window at the top. For my 2510 it's 2.F9.

Post back all this information & we can help you further.

It's likely that you'll need a firmware update from NEC to be able to burn the LG media at speeds greater than 2x.
