| my mkv won't play in Gomplayer, other peoples will. Hello. I used mkvmerge to mux together an xvid avi with ac3, and for some reason it won't play in Gomplayer, but it plays fine in VLC player. The xvid avi and ac3 both play fine seperately in Gomplayer, but when they are muxed, it doesn't play at all. Gomplayer will play other peoples mkv files. Any ideas?? Anthing is appreciated. |

| Re: my mkv won't play in Gomplayer, other peoples will. Seems the new Gomplayer has lots of errors trying to play mkv files. Their forum is full of posts about MKV problems. Better use VLC player from now on.

| Re: my mkv won't play in Gomplayer, other peoples will. Never checked the Gomplayer forum thanks. But I find it strange that other peoples videos will play and mine won't. I want to share files, and want to ensure maximum compatibility, perhaps if I play around with some settings it will turn out |

| Re: my mkv won't play in Gomplayer, other peoples will. Well, the thing is that MKV is a container format. It's not a standard codec system like Divx or Xvid, but a bunch of seperate files in one file. (Hence the name container format). An mkv can have various different files and codecs in it. VLC recognizes practically any codec the MKV container might have, but it's been very difficult for other programs and standalone products to have the same support. Most of them can play Xvid, Divx (4,5 or even 3) and MP4. They usually try to analyse the MKV if there's a suitable codec in it. If you want to ensure maximum compatibility i think your best bet may be divx 3, since almost any standalone player these days can at least play that. The quality might be very poor though. If you want more information regarding the MKV format please visit www.matroska.org

| Re: my mkv won't play in Gomplayer, other peoples will. I just meant compatibility for video players on the computer, but thanks for the extra info. I do understand that it is a container, thats why I thought it was strange the original video and audio file played fine, but once in the container they no longer did. |

| Re: my mkv won't play in Gomplayer, other peoples will. The edit option disappeared ?? Anyways, creating an mkv with mkvmerge v2.2.0 creates an mkv that can be played by Gomplayer, where mkvmerge v2.7.0 doesn't. New versions should be making life easier ![]() I can't see any disadvantages by sticking to 2.2.0.... |
