Movies skip when I burn and play them on my DVD player or PC

I use Nero 7 and AVI files. I burned a few movies on Maxell DVD-R's and they skip, but 2 of them dont.

Does anyone know how to make them not skip, its really really annoying and it ruins the movie. I have tried different software but still no luck. This is a new PC so the system requirements are fine. I sent an e-mail to HP for assistance and they told me to put the "hardware acceleration" to none, they are f**** retarded :side:

Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the forum

Usually this problem is due to a bad burned disc. My suggestion is to burn again using a better quality disc. Maxell can be rather variable in quality (some are Ritek discs).

Try to burn on a verbatim (NOT a "pearl white" series). What burner do you have and what firmware is installed on the drive?

Try lower speed than recommended. What burner(s) do you have? Verbatim MCC004 is generally the best bet for allround disc these days

My worst discs are CMC 8x -R & 16x -R. I often have issues when i burn at max speed on those (even if they are for one view only). With my Pioneer 111 the 8x are good @6x and 16x work @8x. Otherwise pretty crappy. Can't wait 'till i finish those boxes

Actually thats what I'm thinking... it's probably the disk's fault. You see I burned A LOT of SHORT(30 minute) AVI files on Sony DVD-R's and they work fine. I haven't burned any 1:30+ hour files on Sony DVD-R's, only on Maxell. So you can be sure it's the disks brand fault?

What speed are the Maxells? If they're 8x, they could be the dreaded Ritek G05

With that drive you can run quality disc test in cd-dvd speed.

Can you post a scan of a problematic disc here? You can find more info on how to run test here.

Hmmm. Prodisc F02 does quite well on my own LiteOn (an older model) at 8x or 12x.

As Geno says, you can do a quality scan of the burned disc with CD-DVD Speed. Also, you don't mention what speed you burned these discs at...

Yep, I think it's the disks fault. The Maxell DVD-R's wouldnt even let me do a quality test. Here is a quality test of a Sony DVD-R.(There's videos in it though)

PS: I burned the movies in Maxell with 1x speed, they still skipped, I burned short(30 minute) movies in Sony, filled the entire DVD at 16x and no skips. So....

If the burner is not able to make the scan, then the disc have serious quality problems. I consider these discs as coasters.

Burning discs at a so low speed give very often bad results. I suggest to burn around the certified speed of the disc. For example, a 16x disc should be burned @12x or @16x

Yeah I have burned Maxell's at 16x before but they still skip. So judging from the tests, and the fact that Maxell's don't even allow me to do a quality test, it's the disks problem?
