I'm a little new to modding here. I'm wondering if the dms3 is compatible with both the older and newer slim playstation 2. In addition, the link provided doesn't seem to offer the dms3, instead the DMS4 E.Z.I. Pro ModChip is offered. What are the differences among the dms3, dms4 e.z.i regular, and dms4 e.z.i pro?

I'm looking for a solderless option that is affordable and easy to install for a beginner. What about software and hardware exploits? I need the modchip to be able to play all copied games in all formats and imports as well. Playing online isn't really a necessity.
Ultimately, I'm looking for the "best bang for the buck." Probably along the cheaper route is best unless the recommended modchip convinces me otherwise.

Please provide reliable links for making the purchase and for instructions on how to properly install the modchip and back up the ps2 games. I will continue to search the forums for answers as well. Thank you!

DMS3 is old and is no longer "pushed" (in favour of DMS4) but it's basicly the same thing as DMS4 with a few exceptions. No auto detection of inserted media, you have to "tell" the chip what it's supposed to do by holding a specific button on the controller during boot up (DMS4 does this by itself) and it's not solderless. That's the major difference for most users. The difference between DMS4 Lite and Pro is the on chip flash memory size. The Pro allows you to store applications in the flash memory (such as HD Loader) while lite more or less allows you to use a memory card to do the same thing. The DMS4 chips does not work with a slimmed PS2 (at least not yet afaik). Go with the DMS4 EZI Lite and you'll be satisified, remember that it only works with v5-v11 (the old bulky ver). You can find more information in the EZI Installation forum. A word of advice though, unless the BIOS chip and DSP chip is in perfect condition you most likely wont have a successful install of the EZI chip.

Thanks DiiZzY! Well thought out response. It's concise and offers an opinion which was what I was looking for. I mean I can always go directly to the EZI forum, but I needed to hear some opinions first.

Any other recommendations that may work with the Slim PS2? I'm still contemplating on buying either the older or newer slim models. It would be nice to know for future reference. Although the older model at this point is likely to have more modchip options. I'll continue reading more about modchips. Interesting stuff!

The pins must be straight otherwise there wont be a proper connection between the clip(s) and the chip(s).
