Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-832S - dual layer compatability?

I have a new lap top with the above hardware but am clueless about what it can do. I have managed to burn a job to a DVD-RW but wanted to know if a Double Layer DVD+R would work as the back up job I have is larger than the 4.7 GB limit of a standard DVD. Any advice appreciated! Thanks, Martin.
