Your location would be a good start. But here are 3 links for you: This is for Canada http://www.newegg.ca/ , This is for the U.S. http://www.newegg.com/ , This is for both U.S and Canada http://www.blankmedia.ca/index.asp . I always order from blankmedia.ca and buy their DVD+R 8X Taiyo Yuden silver inkjet printable. The 2 best blank media to get are Taiyo Yuden and then Verbatim in second. More cdfreaks members will post and let you know but for now can you let us know where you are located so we can help you better. Edit: forgot to mention DVD-R are more compatible with dvd players than DVD+R but DVD+R is the better one's to get. You just need to Booktype to dvd-rom when you use DVD+R mediaQuote:I am backing up my dvd's and I need to know if I should use dvd-r or dvd+r. I am looking to buy 500 to 1000. Two other sites in the US are www.rima.com and www.supermediastore.com
If you are buying 16x media, Verbatim is a good choice. And the TY 8x +R disks mentioned by GJ are some of my favorites too. -

I am in the U.S and I want to use whichever one would be compatible with the most players. I don't plan on printing on them so the surface is not important which ever one is the cheapest as far as surface. DVD+R or DVD-R I don't know which one to use I will use the TY one if it is better than verbatim -

Don't you mean compatible with your player? Or are you selling copies?.......Quote:I am backing up my dvd's and I need to know if I should use dvd-r or dvd+r. I am looking to buy 500 to 1000......

Assuming the former....VideoHelp has a list of 9000+ players and what formats they can play. Find your player on the list and see if it can play +Rs, if so stick with +Rs because they are better.
From Video Help:
4025 DVD Players support DVDPLUSR 91%
402 DVD Players do not support DVDPLUSR 9%
5043 DVD Players are not tested
Odds are pretty good that your player can use +Rs but a slightly higher percentage will play -Rs:
4558 DVD Players support DVD-R 94%
300 DVD Players do not support DVD-R 6%
4612 DVD Players are not tested -
