How to insert image attachments within text instead of all cluttered at the end

Ever wonder how users post images inline such that the images appear in the post and not cluttered at the end?

First, prepare your post such that there is a blank line for each place you intend inserting an image:

Next, click the following tool highlighted in red:

Browse and select each image you would like to add to your post:

Click the 'Upload' button and wait a moment for the images to upload. If you have more than 5 images to upload, repeat the above process, otherwise close this window.

Now, place your cursor where you would like to insert an image and perform the following:

Repeat for each image to insert. If you would like to upload more images, click on "Manage Attachments" at the top of the pop-up box instead of selecting an image.

Finally, once you submit your post or new thread, they should all appear inline instead of all cluttered at the end.

As an example, all the images in this post are inline.


What's wrong with using an external host?

Some may ask, what's wrong with uploading pictures on an image hosting website and inserting them here using the "Insert Image" tool?

Well, how many times have you tried looking for help on something only to see posts like this where the website hosting the images has gone down or deleted the images:

Another problem is that this legacy method involves hot-linking, which means that if you're doing this to use an image shown on another website, this is also stealing their bandwidth each time someone views your post.

Some website administrators may also counter this by adding hotlink protection to their website, which is another reason why posts hot-linking images from other websites tend to end up with broken images over time.

If you would like to use an image shown on another website in your post, please use the "Upload File from a URL" field shown in the second step above to do this.


Image preparation tips:

• Ensure no image is wider than 800 pixels in width, preferably within 640 pixels.
• Keep JPEG images to within 97.7KB.
• PNG images can be up to 293KB.
• Images larger than any of these limitations will be compressed and may appear degraded in quality.
