HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H20L Will not read dvd+r and dvd+r DL after burning them

Newbie Forum Discuss, HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H20L Will not read dvd+r and dvd+r DL after burning them at Starters forum; My Lg HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H20L absolutely refuses to read dvd's written with it (and a lot of types of CD's). I tried everything i knew. Changed Nero . Searched updated drivers. Changed the connection cable. Everything. But it still doesn't work. Can anybody help???

Hi there!!! Just wanted to say that I have the exact same problem with the exact same hardware HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H20L... Everything worked fine for about 6 months that I had it and just like a month ago I started having problems with it... It won't even read my DVD+RW... Have no clue to what is causing it

I even posted a thread of my own you might want to check out with more precise details, but it didn't exactly enlighten me as much as I would like it to. Few people tried to help me but couldn't get to the problem...they just couldn't interpret it. Anyways, I'm still searching for a solution....I'll try to get back to you (via Private Messaging) if I find it and I would appreciate it if you would do the same

I figure two are better than one if you know what I mean... Hope things work out for you

P.S. You only need to verify if you burn with DVD+Rs; if you burn with DVD-Rs Nero does not give you that option for it automatically applies to the type of the DVD. This option comes up right before you initiate the BURN!

symptoms of my compaq is that I can place a blank disk in and burn a cd but can't play them on the same pc. Won't read and the device manager says that there is a code 39 error message . Driver cannot be installed. Weird huh??????

Don't know about the exact code error, but the rest seems to be all the same to me too...I also have another drive (SONY) which at least recognizes the contents of the DVD-R but when I try to play it reveals an error about the codec being used to compress it...which I know is not the problem for sure because I wrote this DVD on the same PC and haven't removed any of my codecs

Weird thing is that when I reload the DVD on my SONY drive and do not take any action at first, but go straight to windows media player and try to play a file (manually-file>open) on the same DVD-R that wouldn't play it plays. Just don't know what to say!?! It only plays one file at a time which doesn't serve me well cause it's time-consuming... Anyways this all happens on my SONY drive which is much older than the LG (LOL)

Currently I'm planning on posting another thread explaining exactly the situation, which will hopefully enlighten few to help us out. At the moment though I'm pretty busy so I guess that has to wait a day or so...I'll try and keep in touch.

I have the same problem. Win XP recognizes my drive, but when I put a DVD in it just spins for a while and then stops. If I pull up the drive in "My Computer" the 'files' window is blank.

There is a microsft knowledge base item about a similar problem - don't know if it relates to what we are dealing with or not. I am going to try to get a response from them on the workaround and will post it if I find out anything. Here is the microsoft URL

That article is from March though and this is a very recent (1 month) or so problem for me.

Sorry to say this but the fix didn't help me at all

...My burned DVD-Rs still come up as if they were blank

... Hopefully Mycroft42 can help us out with his feedback on this. I had visited some sites that suggested the same thing as Mycroft42 speaks of on his/her post. Must be a UDF problem of some sort...In the past I tried some UDF readers, but the drive still had the problem...Hopefully this hotfix can help us

Sorry for the delay but i was on vacation. Unfortunately the path did'n do the trick. Absolutely no visible changes. My dvd-s are still unreadable. Anyway, thanks for the patch. But, i don't know why, i have a feeling that this is a hardware problem. I tried even on Vista but no changes.
