Sony may have come to the conclusion that it has wasted billions trying to get a stand-alone Blu-ray player into your home.
According to The Standard, Sony may have wasted a small fortune investing in hardware when it should have been spending it on streaming technology.
It seems Sony thought HD alone would be a big enough draw for Blu-ray, but it's coming around to the fact that people aren't flocking to it like white on rice. With only a quarter of US households owning an HDTV, just a fraction of those users actually have any HD media.
While the media industry predicts Blu-ray sales won't overtake DVD until 2012, streaming media companies have lots of time to get their piece of the pie.
