You have installed CDRWin's 'ASPI' shell (virtual device drivers) and they conflict with just about everything else. The drivers are left behind after uninstallation. I'll flash away and get their names for you.

I not sure but if I remember right it is the driver

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\pfc.sys

is the the pfc.sys file . But my memory could be off i installed it awhile ago and had same issue.

isnt that the correct file FP ? I watch all installed programs with installwatch pro.

Thanks all guys, for your help but a lot of this computer jargon goes over my head (im still using 3.4 drivers for my Radeon).

Future Proof, your right when you mention it conflicting with everything, my computer came with nero already installed, thanks for helping out, but these files you mention, please could you be a bit more specific with what i need to do with them.

Thanks again all

Sorry. Find them and kill them. Open CDRWIN and change the I/O interface to non-CDRWIN. Reboot. Search for those files and rename them to

WNASPI9X.DL_
WNASPI9X.VX_
WNASPINT.DL_

Did you turn on hidden files and folders for the search?

Hmmm, otherwise not a CDRWin ASPI Shell problem, now.

yes i searched with hidden files turned on, but no luck, when i go in device manager and click on DVD/CD-ROM Drives there are two lines there like this:

AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device
Sony DVD RW DW-V10A

Next to each of there are exclamation marks when i click on each one i get the same message:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (Code 39).

Dont know if this helps

I really need to learn more about this stuff

What is your motherboard model? Maybe the chipset drivers are out of date/not installed correctly?

my motherboard is an Asus A7N8X nFORCE2, somebody suggested installing these adaptec ASPI drivers instead: http://cd-rw.org/software/cdr_softwa...tools/aspi.cfm
Do you think this would help?

That seems to be my problem, (it mentions code 39) though it looks a little complicated to fix , have you had similar problems jssilva?

Yes, I had that problem once after uninstalling Nero. It is not complicated, just run regedit and find the referenced key and delete the upper and lower filters entries. I would recommend that you back up the registry before deleting the keys.

Click on Start, select Run and type in regedit and click OK. This this bring up the registry editor. Click Registry and select Export Registry File. select a location to save it to and a name for the file. Then you can navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} key and delete the values for the upper and lower filters. If you need to you can click on Registry and select Import Registry File to restore the registry to where it was before you made any changes.
