have to separate songs from one large file

I have one large file. Its one long track with multiple tracks in it and i wanted to take some of the songs out of it but not others.
Which programs would do that?
I do have nero 6 something, with nero sound trax installed and cool edit pro. I dont know if one of these 2 progs will do it for me.
I also have a fairly current version of winamp and win media player.
Will any of these programs separate these tunes into separate mp3's for me?
If not, can you tell me a free prog that will that i can easily get my hands on, thanks

If you have WinAmp and CoolEditPro, it's quite easy to do.

What you do:
1. Open the MP3 in Winamp, set in the Winamp options menu that you want the "Diskwriter" as output, instead of your soundcard. Now, Winamp won't play the song, but it will write it as a WAV file to the harddrive (yes, some softwares can edit MP3 songs, but editing them in WAV mode works a lot better).
2. Now you can open the long track in CoolEdit. Start at the end of the file, look for where the last track starts, cut that part into a new song, save it and start this over again, until there's only one track left.
3. Now you have a set of tracks which can be burned to CDDA.

There is another program that does a good job of spliting mp3s I have not used it in a couple of years but it always did a great job for me. It is mp3directcut http://www.mpesch3.de/

I am trying to figure cool edit out. So far i have learned how to isolate one tune and save it.
I will have some questions on cool edit soon.

To Dee-ehn:
A friend of mine says that cool edit pro will open mp3 files on its own, no need to go thru winamp. Is there a specific reason you told me to do it thru winamp?
Im not criticising, just wondering.

Or you can just use a free program like Alba to do the splitting for you "http://alba.sourceforge.net/"

As mentioned 5 years ago by samlar, mp3directcut, should still git-er-done..There's also Audacity...Perhaps nork already got-er-done..
I will check-out Alba, just cuz I like playing with new toys..
