I have been burning some DVD’s (with Shrink & Decrypter) and I’d like to keep them on my Hard Drive but obviously the files are to big. Is there a process like with audio CD’s (wav. to mp3, saved on the Hard Drive then transformed from an mp3 back to a wav. with software for an audio CD)? If so what software is best for this, where can I get it and how do you do it? You guys & gals are the best.

Thanks Y’all

divxavi has great compression with good pc playback, but then you loose the ability to usually reburn for your set top box. You can usually compress with divx/avi a full dvd to 700 meg or less. Your best bet is if you have a burner......back them up to blank discs. Mpeg is the native dvd format, you'll not get any significant compression there, AVI or WMV will shrink the movie.

DivX codec .avi is great. I store DVR-HDTV episodes in DivX then convert it to a DVD native format if I want to watch them on a large screen or share them with friends. It looks and sounds just like the original broadcast from the couch. You'll have the same experience with DVD content - DivX is an outstanding video codec.

However, I don't think you can retain DVD menus or chapters...someone else should verify that though, I've never backed up DVDs with DivX.

on a 300gb drive you'd be able to save only 68 average size (4.35GB) movies before running out of space.

only a little more than half of that if you backup most of the newer things that are on DL discs running nearly 8GB.

that's not really "loads"
