Hi. I just helped my brother restore an old Pentium III 1.2ghz computer from his work. It was given to him without a hard drive. We got a hard drive, replaced the 50x CDROM with a Lite-On DVD burner SHW-160P6S and an Emprex combo drive COMBO 5216IB (CDRW/DVDROM/7 in 1 card reader).

It has Windows XP SP2, and Nero Startsmart that came with one of the optical drives.

I was able to copy a few DVDs, but now the Emprex (which I use as the source drive) doesn't work when using DVD Shrink. Whenever I try to open a DVD a little window pops up saying "DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Invalid DVD navigation structure." When I put the disc in the Lite-On, DVD Shrink works fine.

According to InfoTool, the Lite-On has no region code selected, while the Emprex is listed as Region 1. Also, the Emprex has 4 region changes left while the Lite-On has 5. I'm located in the U. S. and A.

I didn't mess with the drives. The only thing I did was put the new drives in (Lite-On is D: and Emprex is E and connected the power and ribbon cables. Both optical drives and the hard drive are on Cable Select (though I don't think this is the problem as I was able to use the Emprex as the source drive before).

Any suggestions on how to get the Emprex to work with DVD Shrink? It's easier to just have a source drive and destination drive than to just use one drive and swapping out the source and blank discs.

You could try to find a region-free firmware at www.rpc1.org

The current (and future) batches of original DVD's have additional copy protection on them which prevents DVDShrink from working. Try using the RipIt4Me method.

If Windows Vista is the answer, how stupid must have been the question?
