DVD-RAM Newbie Question

Newbie Forum Discuss, DVD-RAM Newbie Question at Starters forum; I just purchased a new OEM LG GSA-4120B DVD burner (firmware A102), which has DVD-RAM support. I have never used DVD-RAM before, so I have a few questions. The disk was supposed to be pre-formatted, but Win XP Home SP2 asked me to re-format it to Fat32. I guess this

I just purchased a new OEM LG GSA-4120B DVD burner (firmware A102), which has DVD-RAM support. I have never used DVD-RAM before, so I have a few questions.

The disk was supposed to be pre-formatted, but Win XP Home SP2 asked me to re-format it to Fat32. I guess this is becouse Win doesn't support UDF? What's the best way to use DVD-RAM with Win XP? I want to use the DVD-RAM with Mac OS X too, so I would prefure to use UDF rather than Fat 32.

Also, does Win require a driver for DVD-RAM? If so, where can I download it, as I got an OEM version and can't find one on LG's website.

Thanks!
-Jeff

dvd-ram as a data disk is just a big floppy. I also have a dvd-ram drive.......have yet to use that feature....but for my drive, it did require a driver. Added an Icon in my computer as a removable storage. I keep it honestly only because i have a family member with a dvr that prefers dvd-ram...ie it's a panasonic......so think it'll be hand at some point

lg is the name of the company that markets your drive........not who made it.......you need to go to control panel and get the properties of your drive.......find out who made it to find the proper drivers if xp has not properly worked it out. Mine is a matsishitsu........came with the vivastar box

yes it does, to format discs to UDF, anyway. I think LG is being real slack not providing this. The Panasonic drives come with the necessary driver to get busy from day 1.

XP supports UDF but there are different versions of UDF. I think RAM will require a special driver even on XP but I could be wrong.
