dvd drive, dead or alive ?

Newbie Forum Discuss, dvd drive, dead or alive ? at Starters forum; I have a gsa-4120b and recently i format my pc, it was working wonders before it, now it only read and write cds, i tried uninstal/reboot and reinstal the lg softwares that come whith the drive. Nothing work so far, just say "insert a blank dvd" or something like that.

I think the first thing I'd try is to uninstall the burner from device manager, reboot and let xp reinstall it.

i just did it and continue to ignore dvds

Can the drive read pressed DVDs?

i doesnt read any kind of dvd, looks like many people have problems whith it...what i do ?

Can you try the drive in another computer?

no, i just don"t get why it stop working can it be a software problem ?

That's why I asked if you could try it in another PC - to eliminate anything installed on yours that could be causing the problem.

Unfortunately, I'm wondering if the DVD laser might be dead. It is an old drive, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Let's keep it all in the same thread please...

If it won't read a pressed DVD and you have tried all other suggestions including physically brushing the DVD lens, then it's probably dead.
