DVD Chapter problem in ISO and VOBs

I can't do chapter selection when playing an ISO or VOB file

The products i used are DVDShrink to create one big VOB file
and DVDFab 4.0?? (and even the latest DVDFab 5?) to create both a VOB and ISO file.
When i re-played anyone of these formats on my computer using Nero Showtime the Chapter selection/skip is grayed out. Any ideas?

If i burn the ISO file back to a DVD of course all the chapter selections are there because it's now back to it's conventional DVD structure (ie AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS directories)

What i'm trying to do is instead of burning back to a DVD, i want to keep either the VOB or ISO file on a Media hard drive so i can play back the movie on it instead of using a DVD. Right now when i replay those formats on my media hard drive i loose the chapter selection option.

Try using VLC media player to play back your complete ISO files.
It should let you navigate menus and chapters (if present) and you can play a DVD Video ISO file without using any additional virtual drive software. Plus it's free.

Darn forgot to recommend VLC, however playing a single VOB wil not get you chapter selection, as chapter points are stored in the IFOs....

Since the size of the ISO and single vob is the same size of the video_ts folder why not leave it in video_ts form? why change it ?

My goal is to save all my movies and replay them using the Media hard drive, this is a new thing to me and wasn't sure which format is more efficient on this platform.

u r correct, when i double clicked on the IFO instead of VOB file on my computer i do get the chapter selection option. I will need to try this on my Media hard drive to see if it behaves this way.

DVDShrinnk does give me both IFO and VOB files

DVDFab is only giving me the VOB file, anyone know how to also get the IFO file from DVDFab?

Unless you choose vob passthrough, Fab should give you all IFOs, BUPs and VOBs, in a VIDEO_TS folder.....

Welcome to CDFreaks!
VLC, MPC and Nero Showtime will all play my ISOs, but none of them will allow chapter selection, you can only drag the slider. WMP11 will also play them but even the slider is non functional.

That's odd.

VLC 0.9.9/0.9.8a will play DVD Video compliant ISO images just fine on my system, including chapter and menu navigation.

Yes it is odd, I can confirm I use VLC 0.9.7, and I can navigate menu and chapters with proper DVD iso....I'm updating right now to 0.9.9....
