| I am on an HP Pavillion Notebook using a TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532M DVD+_RW burner. For a while now, DVDs are not burning properly from my hard drive. These are the following steps I have undertaken: 1. The System default burning software was Sonic MyDVD. It worked before, but when the DVDs stopped burning I used Nero and some free burner program, neither worked. The errors came up either right at the end of burning the disc or right as it started to verify. I tried reducing the burning speeds, but none of that helped. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all of the programs to see if something messed up, but the same errors came up. Now I have used different media for each material. The first was a memorex DVD+R which I bought 100 of them. Normally they work fine, but now they aren't. So I bought FujiFilm DVD-Rs to try to use a different format and manufacturer, but again the same errors in Sonic and Nero. By then I used the third program to burn, and it rejected both media. After doing some searching online, I found Verbatim DVD-Rs to be the best. So I bought these today, and after 2 attempts, no progress. 3. One odd thing also is that whenever I stick a blank DVD into the drive, it renames in the My Computer to CD-Rom, here's a screenshot with a wierd error coming up. This only started happening after I started going after the drivers. http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/805/weaksc7.gif 4. I've tried updating the drivers manually through the Toshiba website and uninstalling the hardware and having windows reinstalling it through HPs support (which didn't really help much) and this hasn't helped at all. Basically I am stuck. I am afraid if I send in my computer for service, the harddisks will be erased. I want to back up my files, which I have been unable to do. So unless I have to buy an external harddrive for a backup or an external DVD burner, both cost more than DVDs and I don't really want to do, I need help. Thank you. ^_^ |

| Hi tomduo, welcome to CDFreaks!  I'm moving this thread to the Newbie Forum because it's not clear that this is a media problem - it might as easily be a hardware or software problem. Quote:

| First off did you try to uninstall both those software and see if the computer can detect the media? It could be your have to programs trying to do the same functions or using different codecs that is have a adverse effect on each running program in memory. I would remove sony mysonic and install nero and see if that works out better but also check your firmware update as well and check for windows update as well. But do uninstall all your burning program and install nero and see if it can detect the media. But also media quality does matter but until we resolve what software or hardware is causing the problem switching media won't find the problem. |

| Well it you were to do a fresh clean install of windows xp sp2 suppose I guess that what you have. You will be given a option in install to wipe out the second drive but windows cd does give you the option to clean or wipe out anydrive attached to system. But I which drive is your root drive? And now wiping out the main drive to reinstall windows won't clean or wipe out the other drive unless you tell or pick the choice to do so from the new install menu. But before doing that make sure your second drive is spyware and malware and virus free and also download ahead of time all the needed update for the windows or hardware updates so you have them at hand to update your system. But if a clean install doesn't help fix your dvd problem it could be as stated by TCAS you might have a more pressing problem with your burner if so it might be time to replace it. But when updated hardware drivers make sure you get the correct one for the right model numbers. |

| i think you meant you have 2 partitions and not hds (unless 1 of em is external of course) as laptops only have room for 1 internal hd , as for the Q yes its possible , just boot from the xp cd and select the C: partition and choose to format it (remember you wanna format it,not delete it) , before attempting to format & reinstall try these a) download & install latest chipset driver from hp's site b) if you use alcohol 120% or daemon tools,uninstall em,if you alredy did then maybe the sptd driver wasnt removed,follow removal instructions on this page http://www.duplexsecure.com/faq c) try the system restore d) remove upper/lower filters http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 (you may need to uninstall & reinstall the burnning software after doing this) |
