Welcome to the forum. You mention software in your title; be aware, there are DL DVD blanks and SL DVD blanks. Most of the software mentioned is designed for DVD video and software that is on a dual layer disc cannot be compressed to a single layer disc.

I differ on that last point they can compress a DL to SL disc. I use CloneDVD to compress DL to SL media. You do loose some image quality but I played and test the SL copy and didn't notice much difference on 20 inch CRT computer monitor And if I want 1:1 copy I use CloneCD to do a DL to DL copy, also CloneDVD will do 1:1 as well but I usually use CloneCD.

I would say go for slysoft products. Anydvd to decrypt the protection and or CloneDVD or CloneCD to copy your dvd so you don't wear out your originals. You can read more on their site all their products have 21 days trials. They do have instructions on their site and a forum listed there as well.

You guys are missing the point. I clearly mentioned software. I was not speaking about video. Data not images.

So did we answer your question? You didn't mention what kinda DVD type it was ie like movie or game dvd or data dvd? That would help to clear up the confusion some users are giving advice on.

I see you said you mentioned software based dvd but you didn't say why you mentioned DVD video...which to me infers to movie dvd unless stated differently.
