Drivers are specific software that connect the CD/DVD player and the operating system. Unlike firmware, drivers are stored on the computer and not on the hardware device. Each hardware has it’s own drivers, different ones for each different operating system (e.g. Windows XP, Windows Vista). New drivers can solve problems or improve functionality of certain hardware devices.
