| Are these -R discs ones you have used successfully before? What brand are they, and can you give us the media ID (use DVD Identifier). There's something a bit strange about what the drive is reporting the disc ID: End Physical Sector Number of Data Area: 26127F h End Sector Number in Layer 0: 0 h (LBN: FFFD0000 h, 4193920 MB) Data in Burst Cutting Area (BCA) does not exist Start sector number of the current Border-Out: 2FE10 h Start sector number of the next Border-In: 2FFA0 h Media Specific [16..63]: 00 60 00 10 20 30 40 50 - 00 00 00 21 00 00 00 00 .`...0@P...!.... 00 02 FE 10 00 02 FF A0 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................

| Try firmware 205D from this site . It's been recently updated for current media and I've advised several other 2500/2510 users to try this & it's solved their problems. Don't worry what Windows is saying about a blank CD. It doesn't know it's arse from it's elbow when it comes to CD/DVD media. |

| WOOT! It worked! Kudos to you TimC! Now I can start my big huge burn project! Now I have a bunch of questions for all you smart people out there, 1. What was wrong with it in the first place. 2. Is it true that DVD-R is more compatible with DVD players? If so, why don't they just make DVD-R and throw out DVD+R? 3. Can I burn Duble Layer Discs now? Again, thank you, you saved me from going out and buying a whole new burner! |

| Excellent and kudos indeed to TimC ![]() Can't answer you first question, but the evidence is slightly in favour of single-layer DVD-R being more compatible than DVD+R. My own view is that you should use whatever is compatible with your system, rather than being guided by these large surveys. Is there anything you don't like about +R, because you seemed to be using them fine? One thing is for certain though, which is you will get better playability by using the best quality -R or +R discs available and I'm afraid Prodisc are sometimes not one of the best media types, particularly with a legacy burner such as the 2500a. There's no reason to throw out +R as a format, since it has some definite advantages over -R in particular situations. For example, you can set the booktype of a +R disc to make it look like a DVD-ROM and thus widen its playability in standalone DVD players. The best double-layer discs are +R; there are still some problems with DVD-R DL. IIRC you will have to cross-flash your 2500a to a 2510 to burn +R DL... but that's another story and someone else will be better able to point you to the best firmware.

| The original problem was that Prodisc F02 is a new 16x media not recognised by the old firmware. Book typing +R media to DVD-ROM makes for great compatabilty. The 205D firmware , I think , makes it a 2510 & as the hardware is supposedly the same between the 2500 & 2510 then DL burning could well work. |
