Best Drive for ripping audio CDs?

At this point, (2011), is there any noticable quality difference between using different drives and programs for ripping Audio CDs?

This says that:

New rippers with secure ripping facilities have emerged in recent years, and it is now difficult to judge compared to some years ago when the only answer was Exact Audio Copy (EAC).
I have a sony 7240S and Windows media player 12 has the error correction tickbox in the drive options section.

Hi,

my personal "benchmark" is EAC. And from my experience, there is still a difference in DAE features between drives, but I doubt these are audible.

I just encountered a problem rpping with EAC. I'm ripping a 6 CD set, and for some reason the 7240 won't read the second CD. They are all pressed CDs. I had this problem with a lite on drive before (with other pressed music cds). The answer I got here was that some drives were just picky with media for no reason. I put the disk into a compac computer, and the drive was able to read it with no problems.

Are some drives known to be great readers that can read all kinds of media?

Also, I heard that the HP retail drives are reliable, are they also rebadged OEM drives from the big manufactures?

In EAC go to the EAC pulldown Select Drive Options / Extraction Method tab then Burst Mode. See if that will do the rip. That is usually for scratched discs . Be sure to Detect gaps first.

Never had a reason to complain about my antique LG drives

Indeed, they are rebadges.

Re: Best Drive for ripping audio CDs?

I plugged in the exchanged AD 7260 (the first one was defective), although they are supposed to be the same drive, it was able to read the disk without any difficulty.

So it seems that it's not just a model/brand thing, but a per unit thing.

Are Blu Ray drives built with higher quality assurance than DVD writers? Maybe the industry is focusing their manufacturing power on BD drives now?

The Pioneer Blu ray drives get pretty good reviews from users regarding build quality, but I doubt anyone is paying too much attention to optical drives of any sort these days. They are regarded as "mature" tech, very nearly antique.

but bluray drives don't cost 20 dollars. I'm wondering if they have the same build quality as the dvd writers from 6 years ago.
