Blank Media Discuss, Your opinion of CMC 8x DVD-R Media? (CMC MAG AE1) at Consumables forum; Haven't seen many reports on the CMC 8x DVD-R media (CMC MAG AE1) so far. What are your opinions of it? I got a 50 pack of these to use with my 4x Toshiba SD-R5112 burner, but don't have access to a drive capable of checking PI/PO unfortunately.

MAny older burners and older FW revisions do not handle it well at all, but newer ones do just fine. IF your burned discs can be read at 12x or 16x, they are probably OK. Here's one burned in my NEC 3500:

That's a great scan. I'll have to find someone with a LiteOn/Kprobe to see if my older Toshiba SD-R5112 can burn these CMC AE1 discs anywhere near as well as your NEC 3500.

Toshiba=Samsung they are the same writer. Samsung writers works well with TY, Ritek, Ricoh these major brands. Burns horribly with other cheaper or lesser known media. Stick with TY and Ricoh for better results. Nec are know to produce results with even the crappiest media such as princo.

Well it's very drive dependant First pic is burned with ND-3500AG and second is with 832s VS0A. Both without strategy swaps or any mods. But I do have to say I like CMC - media better than the + (CMCMAG E01) I had horrible results with the 8x + from CMC, utter crap.

Maybe you should try the recomended tweaks etc. I have been getting decent scans with my 851s@832s with bitsetting, forced fallback, and recomended tweaks applied using vsob and the cmcmage01 media burnt at 8x.

Well I'm sure I could and get decent results but its almost not worth all the trouble considering how the nec can burn them.

Yea, if you have multiple drives you might as well use the one that works best with a particular media. I only have the lite on but have considered geting another drive to increase the media I can use.
