Hello everyone,

Up until this point I have been using crappy Memorex discs to keep my data on. Since I am sick of coasters I am going to switch to another brand (now that I used the whole spindle of Memorex's up). Also, up until this point I have never heard of Taiyo Yuden. As impressive as they look, I think I am going to give them a go, since they also produce the best burn on the market.

Since I have a 16X burner, I would like to purchase some DVD+'s that burn at 16X. I need them to be inkjet printable, with a white label. Lastly, I do not want a 100pack spindle, I am looking for something that is 50 (seeing a pack of 50 lasts me a LONG time!). If they dont make them in a pack of 50, I will get the 100 and ebay 50 of them.

So, any ideas of TY sells anything under those specs? I live in the US, and am looking for a E-tailer that accepts PayPal.

Thanks in advance!

There are no TY +R 16X discs in the US market. If your priority is 16X you should get Verbatim MCC media, on sale at Office Max from time to time. Otherwise, you will be very happy with the quality of TY +R 8X. and it will only take about 2 minutes more per burn.

Oops. I just noted white label requirement. Good luck finding anything 16X quality. I would go with TY 8X. Your paypal requirement is tough. shop4tech takes them but they have nothing you want.

There is nothing inherently wrong with Verbatim 16x printable media.

No No No. I love MCC media. I was just commenting on how it is hard to find, especially with Paypal.

As the other posters already noted don't think you'll find TY 16x DVD+R

I'm a big Verbatim fan personally i've used TY as well and they're both the best stuff out there really.

I'd pick these up off newegg.com in place of the TY's, 50 pack onsale $22.99 onsale and accepts paypal.

Allright, since from experience I know Verbatim's are of good quality I guess i will go with them. I really dont think I will notice any difference between them and the TY's.

OR I can go with the 8X, as it never hurts to have a slower burn (less errors).

Lets hear some comments if I should go with the 16X Verbatim's @ NewEgg, or 8X TY's

Perhaps you could tell us which burner you got, makes recommending media a bit easier.

I apologise.

Sorry to say, a Sony DRU-720A.

Suckered into the Sony name. Just found out today that it should always be on the master IDE channel. I had it on slave and had quite a few coasters, and was also limited to 6X.

When it dies (or I when I brick it flashing the firmware ) I will replace it with something nicer (maybe a Plextor).

For those of you who are not familiar with the specs:

Optical Storage
Type 1 x DVD
RW (+R double layer) - 5.25" x 1/2H

Read Speed 40x (CD) / 16x (DVD)

Write Speed 48x (CD) / 16x (DVD
R) / 4x (DVD+R DL)

Rewrite Speed 24x (CD) / 6x (DVD-RW) / 8x (DVD+RW)

Supported CD Formats CD Text, CD Extra, CD-DA (audio), CD-ROM XA, Mixed-mode CD, Photo CD, Video CD, CD-ROM, DVD-Video

Supported Recording Modes Multisession

Supported Media Types CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD+R DL

Buffer Size 2 MB

Buffer Underrun Protection Yes

Access Time 135 ms (DVD), 140 ms (CD)

Media Load Type Tray

Compliant Standards Video CD

Oh and one more thing, on NewEgg it says the Verbatims have no stack ring in the spindle. What does that mean? I just dont want the CD's to be all scratched up from shipping.

EDIT: And am I correct in saying that DVD+R's are more reliable than DVD-R's (due to their pitting methods)?

I just found some interesting info out.

Long ago I purchased some 4X Fuji-Film DVD-R's. Out of curiousity I wanted to know their media code. Low and belold they were TY's! I was so suprrised by this. I had only a single coaster (which was my fault), with the Fuji's.

Also, I figured out that DataLife Plus on the Verbatims means that they carry the MMC code. Since all of you say that they are nearly identical to the TY's, and the egg has them on sale (with FREE 3 day shipping ) I am going to buy a spindle of those.

I doubt I would be able to tell any difference between those and the TY's anyway.

Thanks for everyones help/suggestions!

Having all three media types at hand I would go with TY8x, Verbatim 16x, TY 16x, in that order.

So far I've found the 16x Taiyo Yuden media rather dissappointing, especially compared to the previous excellent 8x versions. The 16X Verbatim on the other hand has improved on the 8x versions in my experience.

I go for TY 8x DVD+R when possible, best results with them for my two burners so far.
