Hehehe, but as mentioned the OP doesn't know how to set the speed in his burning proggy (or maybe doesn't want to, and just wants to get a new drive, I'm not quite sure).

Since several knowledgeable members all feel that it's not down to any bias on the part of the BenQ, I stand corrected. By the same token though, I'm still unwilling to accept that the LG may be duff until two things happen:

1) the media is burned at its rated speed

and 2) different media is tried.

Some very knowledgable members do think that there is a bias (at least Dee-27 and C0deking, if I'm not mistaken). Thus it's not a clear cut, that's why I stressed that it was my opinion.. - no one knows the "truth" about all this.

I agree.

I do not think the media has been overspeeded, unless the normal firmwares for both these drives allow T02 to be written at higher than rated speed. The LG drive maybe faulty, tests on other media would confirm that hypothesis.

Well some testing on the disputed burnt discs with a professional analyzer would give the answer , but noone here has such a device, so members here will just continue to disagree about such things

My LGs allow overspeeding of T02 to 12x (edit: with stock firmware). As for BenQ....QSuite's Overspeed?

Edit: if it's hitting 9x during the burn I'd say it's definitely being oversped.

im using stock firmware. I dont overspeed. these TY media burn easy at X9 top speed at recommended speed by themselves. burns start of at about x4.5 makes its way to X9 in the end with Fab. I dont blame them as they are made in japan and its the best media ever made. BW verbs are not that good. Other media burn at rated 8x. It's the drive. My 2 year old banq external can burn them at 9.5 top speed with great burn results. LG= Lifes Bad. I ordered a samsung now.

I think if you value your data like someone else said then it's wise to not use this...if it's LIKE that. Because who really wants to back-up there movies in a few months do to poor burns again?

Why would you have to burn those T02 again in a few months? The way it's burnt is not going to change in a few months unless the media is Ritek G05.

Shady, I suggest you use a better burning program like IMGburn to burn your ISO files. That way you know what speed the media is burning @ for sure.

One way to check supported speed is to open up nero cdspeed and and click on disc info when the disc is loaded into the drive. It will come up with what supported speeds the disc has. It would be interesting to see what speed your LG is doing the T02.

Anyways, you've ordered a new drive before testing enough IMO, not that there's anything wrong with that but the solution for the LG may have been simple

Not bad for a 16x burn on 8x media! However, BenQ will calibrate frequently as you can see on the graph. The LG drives aren't as good at this.

Yeah, I had some really good burns with Verb T02 @ 16x (with one of C0deKing's modded firmwares, can't remember which LiteOn though).

But I agree with cd pirate, a bit more testing could have been done before ordering another drive (even burning at the rated speed in case that is the problem would have been simple).

Not to butt in, but mind trying to burn an image with CD-DVD Speed on the drive in question & do a quality scan? I would like to see what the drive actually does (the write graph), and pictures speak 1,000 words

BenQ mate. Not BanQ FFS.

Anyways looks like your new writer is going fine with the T02 discs

There are also Made in Korea LGs.
You should have bought a Panasonic LG from the start if you wanted to scan with BenQ.

What about scanning your "crappy" LG burns with the Samsung?
