| What does this warning label mean & is this disk any good? Strange packaging label on the best over the counter media sold in Nepal: MaxellDVD-RW v1.1 So I guess I just set my Sony DRU700a to record at 2x and all should be fine yes? This media costs twice as much as off-brand media here that comes loose without packaging. Here are the test results on my current project (a 4 minute music video): General Information (70% Quality rating) Drive: SONY DVD RW DRU-700A Firmware: CY58 Disc: DVD-RW (MCC 01RW11n9) Selected speed: 7 X PI errors Maximum: 16 Average: 7.94 Total: 5497 PI failures Maximum: 7 Average: 0.36 Total: 406 PO failures: n/a Jitter: n/a Scanning Statistics Elapsed time: 1:26 Number of samples: 6870 Average scanning interval: 1.18 ECC Glitches removed: 0 The results from Disk Info is as follows showing this is really verbatim media and whaaaa!!! the recorder info is wrong! The disk was compiled using Nerovision3 latest: Nero CD-DVD Speed: Disc Info Basic Information Disc Type: : DVD-RW Book Type : DVD-RW Manufacturer: : Verbatim MID : MCC 01RW11n9 Write speeds: : 2 X Blank Capacity : 4.38 GB : 4489 MB : 4707319808 bytes Extended Information Layers : 1 Usage : General Copyright protection : n/a Recorder information : recorded with SONY SONY DW-D18A Disc Status : Closed So what do you all think? | Re: What does this warning label mean & is this disk any good? Your recorder will burn that without issue at 2x. You might want to try a firmware update to obtain the latest writing strategies and to make sure the drive is ready to handle the latest media (which is not burning at 2x, but it can't hurt to update). And yes it is Verbatim/Mitsubishi media, rebranded as Maxell. There is a lot of faked media around however... post the serial number around the hub of the disc (either black print or stamped into clear plastic) and someone can probably verify it for you. -Evan- |

The serial on the disk is VB13C5818711618 although the 5 might be an S, who knows with that little dot matrix crap. I would not be surprised if it was fake, this is the Kingdom of Fake. jigs

| Re: What does this warning label mean & is this disk any good? ps. how do you know the actual burn speed. I selected 2x in NV3! I am assuming it was burnt at that speed. |

| Re: What does this warning label mean & is this disk any good? That package and it's sticker/info is really OLD. Normally such warnings are only suitable for using higher rated media (eg. 4x) with slower burning drives (eg. up to 2x).

Well that's what confused me! I mean 1x-2x is pretty darn slow. Since I have an 8x writer, can I burn that fast on this old media? ps.we are back in the 90's here...

| Re: What does this warning label mean & is this disk any good? Generally no. RW discs are specific to speed and cannot be burnt higher than the rated speed, in this case 2x
