Just saw the new design packaged Verbies advertised today.

Seems to me that they have "adopted" the MemoWrex design apparently.
Anyway, i hope Verbatim still stands for QUALITY.

Today I went to PC World and Currys' local stores, Verbs (+R)are on sale - 50P/9.49 (Online price is much cheaper).

However, only -Rs MCC03RG20s are MIT, +Rs MCC004s are MIC! (not TY cakebox)

Shocking! I would never ever go for MIC Verbs at this price!

It seems to be that DVD+/-R production is now shifting from Taiwan to China, similar to what happened with CD-R production.

All major Taiwanese manufacturers (Daxon, Ritek, CMC, Prodisc etc.) operate factories mainly for CD-R production in locations like China, Hong Kong or Malaysia where the production costs may be cheaper.

Whether this will mean a further decline in quality or not remains to be seen...

You WANT Verbatim's Singapore DL media. It is better than MII [made in India] DL [some people are having issues with the MKM 001 made in India]. MIT Verbatim DL has yet to show up.

It used to be that Verbatim, way back in the good old days, manufactured its SL media in Singapore, and it had very good quality. But now it is done by CMC, Prodisc [Made in Taiwan], and Moser Baer India [Made in India]. While some have had luck, much of the MIT and MII still can't compete with MIS media.

Nowadays, it seems that the main MIS thing form Verbatim is MKM 003, the 8x DVD+R DL.

It's the Japanese Wikipedia that mentions:

"ディスクメーカーである太陽誘電との友好関係は有名であり、太陽 誘電製メディアにPLEXTOR製ドライブで書き込むと、記録品質が良好 なる場合が多い。"
Must be something like The friendly relations with the disc manufacturer Taiyo Yuden are well-known, and the write quality of Taiyo Yuden media written with Plextor drives is often excellent.

They have sold Taiyo Yuden media under their brand for a long time so they should work well
My 716s love YUDEN000 T03, by the way

Shoot Verbatim instead. There are many reports of rather disappointing quality of Verbatim branded 16x Taiyo Yuden media, YUDEN000 T03 (DVD+R) as well as TYG03 (DVD-R).

My Verbatim branded 16x TY media is nowhere near as good as my Plextor and Panasonic branded 16x TY media. I'm using one 50pc cakebox of Verbatim 16x DVD+R (YUDEN000 T03) TH000037 only for testing and throwaway discs, since the quality after 4 GB is mediocre at best but mostly bad.

If you get good discs, then good for you, but be prepared that they are nothing special.

My experience tells me the same.

I use mine for everyday use, rather than the archives I save my MCC004 for.

My verbatim -R TYs are like that, mediocre, but the +Rs I got is perfect. The best TY 16x +R I have tried, only compared against plextor and TDK though as that is the only other TY +R 16x discs I have.

Like I've said elsewhere..who's got these reports of poor Verb TY T03? You might get the odd disc but I've been pretty happy with them.

Look around the CDF forums and you'll find such reports. Not many reporting that their Verbatim branded 16x TY are excellent.

You can still find Made in Singapore DVD+R DL 2.4x.

My son and I were at Best Buy yesterday and I found several Made in Singapore DVD+R DL 2.4x in the new "neon" packaging so they do exist.

I bought only one 20 DL pack as I needed a new gaming mouse (Razor Diamondback)

edit: lol I see all you found is MIS (this is great), well anyway most are reporting only finding MII DL
so this is 3-4 people now reporting MIS.

I've been burning the "new package" Verbatim 16x DVD+Rs and DVD-R's
for the last serveral days, and I don't like what I see. Did anyone else
notice that the discs are thinner than they used to be as well? Look at
how many spacers are needed to fill the gap at the top of a full spindle.
They even feel flimsy, reminding me of some Staples house brand discs
I had some time ago.

I've noticed that Verbatim quality has been steadily declining (along with
just about everyone else, to be fair). But with these new discs, as far as
I'm concerned, Verbatim has finally "jumped the shark".

Only 1 spacer was used in my 50CB 16x DVD-R made by prodisc with new packaging style.

Any idea who manufactured yours? Serial number around center hole of disc + where it's manufactured (written on package) should give a clue.

With the new packaging I have found that the rules for identifying CMC PAPA Verbatims didn't change: you need to lookup if it's 'Made in Taiwan' and 'Lock/Open' fonts are Times New Roman.... Well, the other day I purchased a bunch of 10pcs spindles and as I was in a hurry I checked up only the 'Lock/Open' font pattern which seemed correct.... Later at home I found that the spindles I've purchased were actually 'Made in China'.... and the code says PAPN, not PAPA.... is this still a proper CMC disc ? I provide some snapshots of the new packaged spindles... As you can see the 'china made' spindles don't have the rectangle shape and also the 'taiwan made' spindles are slightly taller than 'china made'...

I believe Arachne said she recently got some Verbatim Made in China 16x DVD+R...she might post a few scans when she gets time.
