Im just about to purchase some new DVDRs for my Benq DW-1655 DVDRW drive (firmware BCGB). I'm looking for longevity in these new discs. From what i gather Verbatim and Yuden are the top brands and so my question is, over at Blankmedia.ca I'm considering purchasing one of the following brands:

Verbatim DVD-R 16x (MCC 03RG20) Advance AZo Silver.
http://www.blankmedia.ca/proddetail3.asp?id=485

or

Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 8x AZO Dye (TYG02).
http://www.blankmedia.ca/proddetail3.asp?id=867

I'm leaning towards the Verbatim since digitalFaq claimed the MCC 03RG20 media is better than TYG02: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Your thoughts ...

I wouldn't trust digital media Faq that much. You will learn plenty more by visiting this forum

But I do believe verbatim is superior to TY.

The only reason so many people hype TYG02 up is because of how it scans. If you made TYG02 scan more like Verbatim MCC03RG20, you'd soon find not many people would jump out recommending it. Verbatim MCC03RG20 discs are extremely compatible with DVD players in my experiences. Isn't that the most important thing for a burnt DVD? They also have no stability problems so they shouldn't degrade like a Ritek G05 and become unreadable in less than a year.

I'd simply go for whatever is cheaper. Seeing as the verbatim discs are cheaper, I would buy them. TY is very good, but overrated and often over priced.

Ciao ragazzi!

TYG02 from Q-DAQ is most likely fake.
If you can't get genuine TY, stick to the Verbies.

I don't burn very much -R media, but here's my personal prejudice:

MXL RG03 > MCC-03RG20 > MCC-02RG20 > TYG02

I have never had a stand alone DVD player , so compatability is of no concern
But I agree that good batches of Verbatim media are better than TY and most importantly , more cheaper and can be found in B&M stores and go on sale every week (talking about USA)
Good TY media were in 8X age , Verbatim 16X media is better as it can be burnt beautifully well at that speed and that saves time
