Does it degrade over time?

How does the RitekF1 dye performs compared to the MCC dye?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum

Ritek F1 under the Verbatim brand?! First I've heard of that, do they say "Pearl White" on the packaging?

The last Ritek F1 I burned (Traxdata branded) froze on my standalone

I believe the F1 dye isn't too bad as Ritek goes but to see Verbatim using them is indeed of great concern if it is true.

I'd like to think you've bought some fakes there.

Oh dear. Can't imagine Office Max selling fakes, but I guess it's possible.

@The Kipper - if you were looking, I'd start to worry about you ...mind you, it is very strange.

The upperside of the DVD-R RitekF1 looks exactly the same as a the silver Verbatim DVD-R MCC AZO made in taiwan...

The lowerside (write side) looks like a memorex DVD-R... the same color....

How can I identify if they´re real or fake?

In Mexico I presume?
(Judging by your first post in another thread)

Interesting and IMO a little worrying.

I've only tried RITEKF1 as Fujifilm branded Labelflash media. The disc played fine and the scans were OK but not spectacular.

Not sure how to identify that fully (I know with MCC discs it's fairly easy to tell).

Regarding Verbatim Ritek, haven't Verbatims shown up with an MBI code as well IIRC? So it's entirely possible they're using Ritek as well.

@Drage - funny you should mention Mexico - I believe the other non-MCC coded Verbs showed up in Argentina or somewhere?

Yeah I bought them in an Officemax store in Mexico....

The store had before 50 pack spindles Verbatim DVD-R MCC Advanced AZO made in Taiwan. But lately after they sold out all the azo stuff...

They got this new 50 Pack spindles of Verbatim DVD-R RitekF1...

Is it posible that they´re fake?

Or Verbatim is beta testing here this new RitekF1 stuff before introducing them in the United States?

Sounds like a few months ago when another user on this forum reported MBI coded Verbatim 16x DVD-R turning up in Brazil, IIRC

RITEKF1 has been good media to me - very compatible, no degradation, so I wouldn't be that bummed

Thank the lawd! I thought it was the end of the world for a moment there.

No, Verbatim isn't beta-testing anything for the U.S. Verbatim would go bankrupt if they tried to sell that here.

You either have fake media, or a Latin America region-specific product.

Do you have a digital camera or one you could borrow easily? I would love to see some pictures of the packaging and dvd surface (especially a zoom in the hub area). MBI coded media would make some sense but Ritek coded Verbatim is very puzzling to me.

+1

Mmmhh... non-MCC discs sold as Verbatim outside the "Pearl Whites" line? That would be a first. I don't like that.
Dakhaas?

A second ...as mentioned above by myself and Kev, Verb media has also turned up with an MBI code

Not in Europe or North America, though, interestingly.

I don´t have a digital camera at the moment but I will attach some of the images that look like the RitekF1 package that I have...

The Verbatim DVD-R RitekF1 package looks like the classic Verbatim DVD-R MCC Made in Taiwan Advanced Azo package...

The only difference between the two packages is that in the RitekF1 package they deleted the upside triangle with the "16X" and they deleted the "Advanced Azo" words...

The Verbatim DVD-R RitekF1 has on the hub the numbers DR5F60-01542...

The Verbatim DVD-R RitekF1 disc upside looks exactly like a classic Verbatim MCC Made in Taiwan...

But when I look on the downside compared to the MCC dye, the RitekF1 dye, is very different, it has a purple red color that looks exactly like If I was looking a memorex DVD-R cmcmag disc...

The first time when I opened the 50 pack spindle of Verbatim DVD-R RitekF1 I got scared when I saw the Dye looked exactly like if I was looking at a memorex DVD-R cmc mag....

The degradation problem is and will be the problem in the future...

Very scary stuff...

Very unlikely.
It's not just to comfort you that I say this, degradation with Ritek discs has been reported for previous -R stuff (G04/G05) - F1? I don't think so.

*EDIT*. Silly me. With Ritek, one never knows.

RITEKF1 is based on Fuji OxoLife technology, so it at least has a good technology behind it. Also, if RITEKF1 do degrade, I think we would have heard at least some reports by now

Scan and rescan of 9 month old Fujifilm branded RITEKF1 coming up...

Fujifilm Labelflash branded RITEK 16x DVD-R (RITEKF1)
Pioneer DVR-111L 8.29 burned at 8x

Originally burned and scanned 2 Nov 2006.
Rescanned 20 Aug 2007.

The LiteOn drive has been moved from an external FireWire enclosure to being internal. This means that less samples are dropped and the average and total PIE/PIF values will be higher in the new scan. The levels should be the same.

The CDSpeed version has changed and the average calculations have changed so they cannot be compared.

The values are within normal scan variation, but since the levels are higher in both scanning drives, especially in the first 200 MB in the BenQ scan, I think it's likely there has been some degradation and increase in PIE.

The disc has been kept in a good DVD case in a dark place at room temperature, and has only been played once.
