| Verbatim DVD+R 16x MID 003 made by TDK corp Hi, I live in Mumbai and recently got a Verbatim DVD+R 16x, 50 spindle pack. When I checked the disk, in DVD Identifier, I got this info Quote:
Are these DVDs of good quality? How reliable are they? I want to distribute spiritual discourses. EDIT: Code on DVD is DVD+R 6901A2 FO524 OR FO324 (I can't read it properly) Please help. Thanks Last edited by sujalu; 15-07-2012 at 12:34. Reason: added more info

| More information on your TDK 003 disc model: The codes you've provided (DVD+R ... and F0...) indicate the discs were likely made by FTI (Falcon Tech) in the U.A.E. with genuine TDK Corp. technology and materials. Verbatim and FTI are fairly close partners, which explains how you got the TDK media under the Verbatim brand. Allegedly, when TDK media is manufactured under FTI, it is as reliable as when TDK previously made it in-house in Japan. Variants put out by other manufacturing partners (and occasionally by TDK's facilities in Luxembourg, though rarely) are reported to have iffy life expectancy. The discs you have should last well, and should be of no concern. ![]() TDK media has a good track record otherwise. They are frequently supported by burners for overspeeding, which is a testament to their physical properties, and the burns come out looking pristine with fairly good comparability. With FTI making the batch you have, they are likely very good. However, you won't know how they work for you until you test the discs yourself before distribution. |

| Albert is correct. Your stamper codes match the codes on my Falcon Pro 16x DVD+R. Falcon manufactures media for professional use at quality levels similar to Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. The TDK 003 MID has been around for quite some time, and will likely burn very well for you. What burner(s) are you using?

| Thank you Albert ![]() I burn it at 4x, so there are no coasters when burning or skipping when playback. I burned 40 DVDs and none of them failed. I dont remember which app I used, but I will look for some kind of performance after burning. Mostly it was Nero DiskSpeed. I do not use much of Windows. Do you know any similar app for Linux. I use Debian based distros Like Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Linux Mint, Bodhi Linux, etc, for day-2-day work For DVD copying, I use K3b Linux and FOSS is all about freedom (Free not as Free beer, but freedom to use, modify and distribute) and active community like the one in Linux Mint Are there any other test, which a leymen can do? Thanks |

| At some point, I remember that Wine had support for CD-DVD Speed/DiscSpeed. That program has now turned into OptiDriveControl, a paid application, though there are still versions of CD-DVD Speed floating around for legacy purposes and certain special cases; they won't be hard to find on the forums. (I mention that because I don't know how well the Wine emulation layer supports ODC). |

I am using Sony DVD combo drive. It is the most readily available and many hardware vendors (PC assemblers) offer it. One drive is a bit older and another is optriatic drive. 3rd one is default one which you get in Sont Vaio laptop (mine is 2 year old laptop) After searching a lot on net, Taiyo Yuden, rather older Taiyo Yunden before JVC branding having 8x max speed were giving best result. But I am not getting them here in India. Only Verbatim, are available at select locations little away in my vicinity. So I ask my hardware vendor to to buy them for me and add his profit for him. It's all Sony and Moserbaer. @Albert Thanks for info. WINE is just compatibility layer. I will have a look at it and also post in forums

In 2 pcs, one in office and one in home, I have 2 DVD drives. Lyte-on had some problem with Taiyo Yuden (JVC) DVD+R, so I installed another drive, this time Sony. So incase if one drive is not compatible, then there is another as a backup. I also have HP DVD drive, which works better, but I remember sony gives better performance. I have some discourses, which even the ashram (spiritual foundation), which is run by careless volunteers do not have, e.g. a set of 26 cassettes recorded in 1989. It took time for me to know how to convert it to .wav and then to mp3 using voice recording feature of neo audio, best conversion tool is have found for mp3 - wav conversion. This is the reason I have same copies in 2 USB HDD, 2 copies in internal HDD and one Verbatim Gold Archival DVD-R and JVC Gold Archival DVD+R I take care of finances myself, so that I do not have to depend upon others and can work independently. I do not want o loose these discourses, as I consider them to be very valuable and it may change a person's life. That's why I am very concerned, and try to follow everything your geeks say, like keeping DVD vertical, have silica gel (for moisture absorption), good quality DVD albums, like Trio and Case Logic. they have good quality of cloth, burn at 4x speed, etc Is there anything that i am missing? Please let me know Thanks and Regards Sujal
