Ugly TY TO2 Scans but Perfect TRT

Hey guys/gals this has got me bamboozled I just got a 50 cake box of TY TO2 discs yesterday
and the first 4 or 5 discs were perfect. The farther down I went on the stack the worst the
discs got I could see the first 1 or 2 doing bad because of movement during shipment but they
were the best burns so far. The 6th through 8th discs have so far been absolutely terrible the
6th and 7th disc scans look awful but the TRT has been great on them. The 8th disc I tried to
burn in the 20A1S didn't even make it much past the lead in before the No Additional Sense error
popped up. The first 7 discs were burned in my 160P6S but the more I burned the worse they got
and yes I did a learned media reset after the 6th disc but it didn't help on the 7th disc. I tried the
7th disc @12x after the reset but still a no go. Here is the scans of the discs the first scan is of
the first disc burned off the top of the stack and the next one is the 8x burn and then the 12x burn.
The discs all look great no dust, no scratches, no flecks in the dye or anything like that so what could
be causing this?????

Have you got a more picky drive you can TRT on? NEC or BenQ perhaps?

These steep PIE and PIF rise curves look like bugs in the firmware.
Have you tried burning at 6x or 4x?

Unfortunately no I only have 3 Liteon burners 20A1S, 20A1P, 160P6S, and 1 Liteon 166S DVD drive at this time
maybe it's time to buy another brand to check TRT's with for times like this.

Hmmmm.....could be maybe, but it still seems strange the first 4 or 5 would burn excellent then all at once
go downhill that fast. I'll try a burn or two at 4x and 6x latter on tonight.

Oh... what would the LiteOn 166S DVD-ROM say?
DVD-ROMs are usually pickier than writers are.

Yes, try the DVD-ROM drive for reading tests, writers are generally inferior for such testing.

Okay took your advice and did a TRT in the 166S and the TRT looks more appropriate
for such a bad burn

Okay here is scans of a 4x and 6x burn a little bit better but funny thing is most of these discs
so far will not finish a jitter scan @8x speed comes up with "No Aditional Sense" error but will
finish the jitter scan @4x scan speed

1st scan is 4x burn scanned @8x
2nd scan is the same 4x burn scanned @4x with jitter
3rd scan is 6x burn scanned @8x no jitter

Re: Ugly TY TO2 Scans but Perfect TRT

Ahh well looks like KG was right. FW problem as the 4x burn is actually brilliant. Sticking with 4x or 6x for now would be my advice.

Yes, general writer over-tolerance of errors is why I consider them inferior for reading tests (with exceptions in some situations).

Re: Ugly TY TO2 Scans but Perfect TRT

Okay things are looking up with these TY T02's now. I believe I've got the problem fixed now
looks like having HT turned on was causing the problems with them. I turned it off on both of
the writers the 160P6S and 20A1S and the burns are really sweet looking now. The only
thing is the 20A1P still refuses to burn them no matter what I set it at it HT on or HT off I've
burned around 20 discs between both writers and they have all turned out great so far so I'm happy
here is the last scan of one I just finished and all 20 discs have been real close to this scan here.

Burned @8x
all HT off

I know everyone skipped over this, but I'm curious, from where? Are these unbranded or branded? Premium or Value?

They were bought at Meritline.com and they are unbranded Premium TY T02
and after finding what was causing my problem with them I couldn't be any
more happier with them then I am at the moment.
