Blank Media Discuss, is there a reason DVD-RW's don't seem to be very popular? at Consumables forum; It seems like it would be more convenient to just use the re-recordables, especially for something like data back-up. Is there a reason they aren't very popular?

A number of things. The data wont last very long, they can only be re-written 1000 times (most likely much less than that before they become unusable). Player compatability is still limited, and writing speed is still slow. Also, good media is still a little expensive.

I don't use DVD-RW because they have to be finalized. My standalone DVD recorder writes to both + and - RW, but it's easier to work with DVD+RW.
