Can't speak for that site, and whether the discs are genuine, as I've never used them (maybe some Aussie members could help out here?)...but what I do know is, Taiyo Yuden don't make Lightscribe discs.

If you specifically want Lightscribe ones, your best bet is Verbatim (also excellent quality).

In South Korea, Fusion 21 is the largest official distributor of Taiyo Yuden CD-R, DVD-R, and DVD+R media. They sell both Fusion (OEM) media that are actually made by Taiyo Yuden and imported from Japan, and also That's branded bulk, spindle, and jewel case products. The quality between Fusion OEM disks and That's disks is mostly impossible to notice for casual users but sometimes may differ depending on many factors. Fusion 21 officially says nothing about any difference, but its employees often insist Fusion brand disks are of "B" grade. I personally do not care as Fusion DVD+R or DVD-R 16x media cost at least 50% less than That's of the same ID. There have been other smaller distributors of Taiyo Yuden media of various types and speeds in South Korea.

Kenshin: Are you talking about smaller distributors specialized on Taiyo Yuden or smaller distributors which sometimes sell TY media (like TDK or Verbatim)?

Hey bad news..

Quote:
Hi David,

I gather form your email, you are looking to buy Media that can be used on
your Lightscribe burner.

Taiyo Yuden do not yet produce any Lightscribe media. But that's not to say
there media cannot be used on a Lightscribe burner, you just can't use the
Lightscribe function on TY media.

We do have Verbatim DVD CDR that are Lightscribe applicable.

Verbatims work well for me. I actually get better burns with my Verbatims than I do with my Taiyo Yudens. I have the Liteon 1693s with kc4b firmware.

I happen to use these, which are MCC 003.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817130005

I see they have gone up in price since I bought them.

rima.com has Verbatim lightscribe but not in 20-pack. I don't know if they are MCC 003, but they are cheaper per disc than newegg's.

You'll have no problem with the Verbatim in your LiteOn. They love that media.

Maxwell? You aren't going to burn coffee in your DVD burner?
If you were thinking about Maxell, yes, this is decent media if MIJ. MIT Maxell can be anything from decent (RICOHJPN-coded DVD+R) to horrible (RITEK G05).

MIJ can also be Ritek.

Yes, Maxell has had labelling issues in the past, but they seem to be fixed if newer stock is any indication

But Maxell doesn't even do LS media, do they? I thought it was just Verbatim and HP.

Correct, I went a little off topic there Verbatim, HP and Memorex are the only three brands that I can name off the top of my head that offer Lightscribe products.

Which means CMC is doing the majority of LightScribe media production (even the Verbatim LS media with MCC codes is probably made by CMC). Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I've completely reversed my initial opinion of CMC media; if you feed it to the right burner it's great.

Cough, another brand, cough >> http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=186817

I think the companies making LS media at the moment are CMC, Prodisc & MBI. Think the others may look at it now that HP has lowered the initial licensing fee.

TDK Europe sells LightScribe CD-R too (rare though).
While most Verbatim LS media was MIT (by CMC) before now I've started seeing lots of MII LS media. Also, it seems that in my area, cakeboxed media almost always is Prodisc or MBI now - CMC is becoming the second Singapore, only making jewel cased media and in rare occasion cakeboxes.
This is a sad day for all of us.

I dunno why people hate on the Prodisc-made MCC. It's been great for me going back to the 4x days. I've never used MBIL-MCC since it's not available in the US. I guess the majority of the CMC-MCC is sent to the US and Asia since there is no shortage of it on the shelves here.

I think you're right about most of the CMC MCC going to the US and Asia - the majority of Verb MCC I've seen here has been MBI, wherever I look. Found some 25-cakeboxes of CMC MCC in a B&M the other day, one of which I snapped up (wish I'd bought more).

The only other CMC MCC I've found is Infiniti-branded (and excellent on my burners).

Hehe...this has nothing to do with LS

@OP

Those media seem expensive.

Try a comparison with http://www.JPLdisplays.com.au
*Edit* Actually, it's a mixed bag .... some are more expensive, some are cheaper -> It's nice to see some competition */edit*

Lightscribe is highly over-rated. Save yourself some money by buying straight inkjet printable discs & buy an inkjet printer that can print direct to discs - Pretty colours & faster -> rather than wearing out burners, and ugly monochromatic images.

And you can still get the best, TY too

I'll have to cope with Prodisc MCC media then, Prodisc is still better than MBI!

Without a doubt, the MCC004 is better.

Save yourself some hassles & drop the imation in the bin asap, or if you haven't opened them, return it for a refund
