Yes if not more so.
Cyanine.

I've read that Cyanine dye can be the most unreliable of the various types used for CDRs, though... more UV sensitive, etc. Would these discs be the best type for data backups?

I think the current Cyanine dye used by Taiyo Yuden is more stable than the original Cyanine dye.

Almost all such information found on the Internet about the relative stability of dye seem to be several years old.

By all accounts, Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs are extremely stable. It really is hard to go wrong with them.

The Cyanine myth is years old indeed. If it's done properly (it's called "Super Cyanine" or "Metal stabilized Cyanine") it's no less reliable than Super Azo or Phthalocyanine.
The dye doesn't make all of the disc, so a good cyanine disc will be much better than a bad phthalocyanine discd

If so, which are the best ? I am interested mostly in TYG02 and YUDEN000 T02, and only in brands which are available in Europe.
now it's the 16X variant that is available here but I've been wondering the same since there is
a good 20% difference between the "Made in Japan" VERBATIMs and the PLEXTORs price!
I did get the cheaper Verbs last time but haven't opened it yet and I reckon they are exactly the same,
but on the other thread some people are looking for Panasonic branded YUDEN000 T03 ,
maybe they know something that I don't

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but here's a link to a report of a pretty scary problem with TYG02:

He tried to burn the disc with that plastic spacer accidentally attached to
the bottom, the last one from the spindle. Some TYs are sticky, so I noticed!

Btw,I can pull apart a lot of DVD-Rs in a matter of seconds except maybe Riteks.

I was able to pull apart:
RITEK G05: Easy.
RITEK R03: Fairly easy.
MBIPG101 R04: Fairly easy.
YUDEN000 T03: Not easy.
SONY D21 (Made in Austria): Not easy.
MCC 004 (MBI- and Prodisc-made): Difficult.
CMC MAG M01: Difficult.
CMC MAG E01: Difficult.
MCC 004 (CMC-made): Difficult.

Just my three cents.

That is indeed scary, but as long as it's limited to a few cases... This could happen at the well-loved and appreciated Ritek or MBI factory tomorrow, too, when it happened at TY just a few days ago. We are all human.
I would still prefer YUDEN000 T02, TYG02, TYG03 or even YUDEN000 T03 over RITEK G05, RITEK R03, or TDK 003.

I know that some correlations have been made a number of times on bonding and its potential effect on disc stability, and from your list there are some definite trends in those discs with better bonding also being more stable media, and vice versa. Of course the characteristics of a disc's bonding alone does not determine stability or lack of it, but I think there are clearly some relations between the two. For example, it's generally accepted that MCC and CMC media has good stability, and that coincided with your findings of 'difficult' to split apart. Of course you list G05 as easy and we all know their problems. I have heard seemingly isolated incidents of instability with Ritek +R and MBI, so who knows if bonding played a role there.

BTW, were you splitting these discs from the hub or the edge of the discs?

To stay on the topic of the thread, I have seen a number of claims that could describe TY media's bonding as somewhat 'suspect', although nothing dramatically bad. I will agree that they certainly don't have the bulletproof bonding that I've seen in MCC and CMC, and I can confirm that a majority of my early burns (3+ years) are CMC and they scan very well to this day. In the future I'm going to pay closer attention to particularly good or bad bonding from a given brand. I just hate tearing apart any discs.

If my comments are too 'off topic' to the thread, just delete it.

From the hub. It is always difficult to separate from the edge. And the most important data (lead-in, information...) is stored near the hub.
It surprised me that Ritek's bonding is supposed to be so good, but in fact I have had a harder time splitting Taiyo Yuden discs.

You can sue them if it is not true.

guys, what about those Taiyo Yuden Silver DVD+Rs ?
I remember the Taiyo Blue that was kind of cheaper than the ceramic coat, but now my Taiyo reseller has brought these Silver ones at extremely low prices (he says it's a "get to know them" low price). I mean, Yuden000 T02 cost here 0.26euros a piece if you buy 100 , and these Taiyo Silver DVD+R 8x are 0.17euros per piece if you buy 100!! , 100 discs for 17 euros.

I need to store some Hight definition stuff that is taking too much space, and I am interested, but I wanted to know if anyone has tested these because they only sell them at 100x spindles, and I wouldn't wanna waste my money on 100 pieces if they are not worth it....

Depends on reseller's reliability-All unbranded discs vary in quality depends on cost or reseller's market target.

You surely aren't wasting your money!
Even CD-R in Germany cost more than those TY DVD+R! And if it doesn't work well, you can still use them as everyday discs
If you want to be really really safe (as some told me that the blue tops and ceramic tops aren't supposed to be exactly A-grade) get the That's 8x DVD-R.

Even 0.26 would be a very nice price. I would have to pay 46€ for 100. Where do you get such prices?

They are talking about Disc Impex (Athens, Greece), a TY media distributor for the Balkans, they have lots of unbranded TY but also That's media with Japanese packaging.
But if I remember correctly, you have to add 19% VAT, which means that 100 YUDEN000 T02 (silver top) cost € 20.23. Still, the price isn't bad

Yes, when I was on my vacation in Greece, I bought 100 YUDEN000 T02 Blue.
Price was:

100 discs: 22,62 Eur
VAT: 4,30 Eur
Total: 26.92 Eur

I also get That's DVD+R 8x Ceramic coat in jewel cases, but Blue ones scans little better than That's

Here is Blue, That's scan You can find here:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=191970

And I think that Disc Impex is TY distributor only for Greece, since I am on Balcan too, but I can't find this TY here....

Most definitely fakes. Aside from unbranded TY, from what I've gathered, in Europe genuine TY is sold only as Verbatim, Panasonic, Fujifilm (old stock), Maxell (old stock), and Datasafe Pro (UK only?).

They sell authentic That's (home brand of TY) media. It's the real stuff!
The ceramic coat TY discs are genuine too.
Don't forget to add 19% VAT.

If it were fakes, I would yet have to see fakes that have the TY hub code and the performance and the cakeboxes cloned so well
