Taiyo Yuden DVDs bad?!

I got a big new stack of blank Taiyo Yuden DVDs and an unusual number of them are coming out bad. For example these kprobe and cdspeed scans of this one disc don't look good, do they? And the scans say these are genuine Taiyo Yudens, and I bought these Taiyo Yudens from a reputable vendor (Rima) I've gone with before. I did make some sys. adjustments a while back, but that was just the HD...same old burner, same software. Don't know why these discs are ripping fine but not burning well. Any ideas? Thank you.

Are these the cheaper 'Value Line'?

I have a similar problem, I bought the 100 pack of TY DVD+Rs from Meritline, have always had 100% good burns with these, now I am getting about 40% coasters. I assume these are from a bad batch as well. Is there anything here that could explain why, or show that they are faked?

NeroDiscSpeed 4 won't run the disc quality test, I have no idea why not.

Quality scanning with a LG 4163? I think, that won´t work anyway.
Try a LiteOn, BenQ, or one of the newer SONY/NEC Optiarc, Samsung or even Pioneer drives, if you have one.

Again were these the 'Value Line' that usually come in a tape wrap?

They were from Meritline in shrink wrapped packs of 100. The label says:

The scan appears to reflect reality: the unreadable burned DVDs are coasters and the readable DVDs look "normal". I ordered an Optiarc AD 7240S 0B to see if a newer drive makes a difference.

By the number above they appear to be the premium line and not the value line as they always have VAL
some where in the numbers line. You might have better luck with them with the new burner so please post
back your results with them and the new burner after a few burns.

OreRockOn, it looks like you have the basic and first firmware on you LG drive, IIRC 16x TY (or any media) was not around at this time and you should try to update the firmware.

The problem could also be got around if you gave a lower burn speed a go my 4167b (drive after yours) does some of its best burns with 16x TY and 4x speed, but I use the latest firmware.

Also the speed drop while burning can cause you problems with the reading back of the media, try a TRT test press 'F2' on the first (benchmark) screen on CDspeed.

There is something wrong with your drive.They have premium line in tape wrap also, the cheap stuff states Value Line on the package, and advice for everyone never buy from Meritline, and SuperMediaStore is not much better.

A very good choice for so-so YUDEN000 T03.
I have an AD 7200S. So far, no other burner did them better.

The drive also is able to scan PIE and PIF with CD/DVD-Speed 0r Discspeed.
