I recently grabbed a 10 pack of these Fuji 24x in slimline cases from staples/business depot . They were made in japan, and I figured they might be TY (which they were) But, with the Liteon Media Check program, they come up at only 16x, and with Nero, the burn speed of my LTR40125s is set to 16x (with smart burn enabled). Disc Type, Material = CD-R, Cyanine ATIP Lead-in = 97m 24s 01f Norminal Capacity = 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f) Disc Manufacturer maybe = Taiyoyuden,P SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 16X My question is: are these really 24x rated disks? If so why would smart burn limit them at 16x, should I just disable it and burn at 24x anyways? Or should I think about taking them back? I bought these discs specifically for important things that I can't afford to have go bad (and I paid quite a bit more for them as well), because I generally use cheap PINE 32x for my everyday burning. Any help is appreciated

| They are probably re-rated, they were 16x first but it turned up they worked fine at 24x. Fuji does that all the time... And since they are the same disc (same ATIP) LiteOn Smartburn report what it knows, which is 16x-rated. Burn it at 24x ![]() (You can see another example of this here , taken from this thread )

Airhead The 40x media are NOT re-labeled 24x media, as the thread you sited should demonstrate, they are different media as is shown in SmartBurn media check and other tests. baracus you don't mention your firmware version, this can make a difference in how smartBurn sees a particular media. If you have not done so, update to ZS0K.
| Ok, Fuji is a very strange company.

I am using firmware ZS0K, and yes I had read that thread before, the difference I noticed was that the relabelled 24x media wasn't coming up below it's new labelled speed. I burned one of the disks last night at 24x, use nero CD Speed to check it for errors here are the results: [11:57:19] Initializing [11:57:24] Starting CD Quality Check [11:58:28] Read Error at 29:55:30 (code 056400) [11:58:28] Test Aborted After which I ran scandisk which showed: 99.17% good sectors 0% damaged 0.83% bad/unreadable I ran the test several times to make sure it wasnt a fluke, I also tried running CD speed on several different machines/drives with similar results to the ones above. If there's any other info I can provide to help you in your conclusion about the disks, just let me know, thanks.
This scandisc report reminds me of the infamous "last sector" issue. Was the final sector red? If so, disregard this test. Make sure you close the disc, and i suggest burning in DAO mode. Otherwise this is a good burn at 24x. If this is not the case, burn them at 16x and see how it goes.
The bad sector was midway thru the disk, it was burnt in DAO mode, at 24x. I'll give 16x a shot, though I think I'll be contacting Fuji Canada to see what they've got to say about 24x labelled media not working at 24x

Results for my second set of tests (LTR40125s ZS0K, Nero 5.5.9.0, Win2k SP3) using the Fuji 24x labelled (16x rated) TY media. 16x Write, DAO/96 Mode Audio CD, 613 megs (60:40:36) CDSpeed - CD Quality Check 0 Errors (0.000%) Average Read Speed: 33.10x CDSpeed - Scandisk Good = 100.0% Damaged = 0.0% Bad/Unreadable = 0.0% 24x Write, DAO/96 Mode Audio CD, 613 megs (60:40:36) CDSpeed - CD Quality Check 0 Errors (0.000%) Average Read Speed: 32.70x CDSpeed - Scandisk Good = 100.0% Damaged = 0.0% Bad/Unreadable = 0.0% Looking at these results I would guess the previous disk was a fluke. Sorry to waste your time, I guess these work fine at 24x.
I was under the impression that DAO96 was not functional, has this changed?
I though I'd heard something about DAO96 causing problems, but my memory ain't so great. I always use plain DAO. Do a search here for DAO96 and there are a couple pages of threads.
Yea, I took a look, seems like most of the problems was burners that didnt support it properly, and locked up while burning. But I also found that it's not really important unless you're backing up protected CDs. But it hasnt caused me any problems. I'll just stick to DAO mode I guess
