Is this the serial-number? It's stamped into the plastic around the hole:

5007 512 -R C B 10930

What does it mean? Does the "-R" mean they are made by Prodisk?
Made in India means made by Moser Baer India.

Iv'e just bought a spindle of 50 Verbatim 8x DVD-R Made in Tawain here in Australia. They had the paper on top of the foam ring. The code on the dvd is 5024E0826-06169001.
So it looks like these are Prodisc then? There was no reference to Data Life Plus anywhere on the packaging so these must be recent made. (Verb said they were not going to label any discs DLP anymore)
They seems to burn excellent at 8x and playback super on my picky Sony standalone.

Not necessarily. If it says Made in India then it is almost certainly Moser Baer.

No, if they are made in India they are made by Moser Baer.

*EDIT* lol I guess I should have paid more attention to the end of the thread before replying; sometimes I tend to overlook when additional pages have been added to a thread.

MCC02RG20 made by CMC is higher quality media than CMC MAG.AE1. It's all about the dye formulation (Mitsubishi's vs CMC's own dye).

*EDIT* I just realized what you meant, that you weren't necessarily talking about CMC-made MCC discs, but a bad batch of CMC's own 8x -Rs. The serial numbers on the inner hub are particular to each individual disc, so it's not really possible to look out for them.

I have non-hub printable media that I got from Best Buy which was labeled Memorex DVD-R Printable, which I believe is from Prodisc with # 4254F1213-04308C10 around the hub. Is there an easy way to find this media at an online retailer?

Yep, just search for Prodisc printable discs at www.supermediastore.com or www.rima.com or others...

I just bought a Verbatim 50pack 8x DVD+R at BB. Media code MCC 003. Made in Taiwan
One of the serials is: PAH637JA31035535 6
Any idea if these are Prodisc or CMC?

CMC. Prodisc numbers will have a + or - in the middle.

Interesting. I bought the package with the "smaller top-lip", thinking they were Prodisc. I saw packages with a higher lip as well (also Made in Taiwan), so I'm assuming they're both CMC? Bummer.

I've found that a more reliable indicator of CMC spindles is the use of a serif font for the words OPEN and CLOSE on the cover. Prodisc spindles use a sans-serif font.

No guarantees, but in my experience with about 10-12 spindles of MCC003/02RG20/004/03RG20 from three different sources (Best Buy, dell.com, and Microcenter) it's been true so far.

Oh, yeah... I happen to prefer Verbatim discs manufactured by CMC. But they've all been pretty good.

Bumping this thread again. I have some Infiniti 16x -R MCC 03RG20's and the ring shows MAP63 etc. They are Samurai Sunset Gold and have a small top lip and no top label or sign of any foam or plastic ring on top.

Not burned any yet. Waiting for Dee to release W6 for the NEC 3540 before I do

Made in Taiwan so I guess these are CMC made?

Ok, guys. Trying to summarize after reading this thread. So we have,

1. Discs with S/N like PAH637JA31035535 6 are made by CMC in Taiwan for Verbatim, CMC.
2. Discs with S/N like 4254F1213-04308C10 (- or +) are made by Prodisc in ??? for Verbatim, ???.
3. Discs with S/N like 5007 512 -R C B 10930 (-R or +R) are made by Moser Baer in India for Verbatim, ???.
4. Discs with S/N like ??? are maded by ??? in Singapore for Verbatim, ???.
5. Discs with S/N like ??? are maded by ??? in Japan for Verbatim, ???.
6. Discs with S/N like ??? are maded by ??? in Hong Kong for ???, ???.

What about the blank info about the country in 2? Also S/N, manufacturer, country and brand(s) in 4 and 5? Cheers.

Question: Are they going to fake the S/N as well in the future?

No such thing as #5, if you mean media with MCC codes. #2 country of origin is Taiwan. As for question #4, Singapore discs have serials that start with a "V" like VI4417KA144652.

nope, they're usually made by taiyo yuden and are verbatim pastel disc's, like tyg01 (-r, 4x), etc.
unfortunately, i haven't seen those kind of disc's for some time now

I got a cakebox of 25 Infinity's 8x (Samurai) Eternal Blue (mediacode MCC 003 -made in Taiwan), which I bought begin 2005. The serial numbers seem similar to those mentioned from Verbatim DVD+R 50-pack.
S/N: PAH637IG30020076 5

I suppose they're made by CMC too then, and they should be of the same quality as those Verbatims DVD+R's above mentioned. They seem to burn fine, certainly with the newest stock firmware for my ND 3520

Also bought a new cakebox (25) of Verbatim DVD+R 8x, Made in India, branded as DataLifePlus, Advanced AZO (mediacode: MCC 003 (000))
S/N: 5064 520 +R 0 F 03397

I'll report about their quality later on

made by Moser Baer India. Typical serial for MBI-made MCC.

Dunno, have a CMC MCC003 pack here with a sharp/thin ~6mm top lip and large blocky/bold/capitalized sans-serif "LOCK <> OPEN" on the cake box. The few prodisc one's I've seen have a lower/wider top lip more like a taiyo yuden cake box and also a sans-serif LOCK <> OPEN except with thin lines for the font.

If the disc seriel number in the near center has four letters like "PAPA" or "MAMA" then they are made by CMC - if the seriel number has a "+" or "-" in it - then these are made by Prodisc-eh!

Mine are ZD4166-DVR-147C

I guess that means they were made my Prodisc. Damn!

Though, they seem to be producing good results at the moment.
