But I don't think they are accurate scans. I don't know anything about the drive you are scanning with but I assume it cannot report errors correctly. Despite this, they are very usable disks due to the nice transfer rate test, regardless of what the burn quality really is. Last edited by DrageMester; 13-06-2006 at 20:10. | the drive I use for scanning is Philips SPD2400 which is LiteOn SHW-1635S actually. here are the other scans of my drives with the same media. I think that Philips SPD2400 is the most reliable one among the others ![]() LG GSA-4163B quality test LG GSA-4163B benchmark test LG GCC-4521B quality test LG GCC-4521B benchmark test LG GSA-4163B quality test LG GSA-4163B benchmark test LG GCC-4521B quality test LG GCC-4521B benchmark test NEC ND-6650A quality test NEC ND-6650A benchmark test |

I'm sorry to bring you bad news, but have a look in the following thread: Lite-On dvd writers, unreliable cd scanners, but how unreliable ?

| @ DrageMester thanks, I had a LG GSA-4163B first and learned that it couldn't make quality tests and decide to buy first of all a good scanner, and if it's possible a good burner too I ended up with Philips SPD2400 and BenQ DW1650 (as 1640 was hardly to found at that time). I've spent my credits on dvd burner so I'll continue with what I have and looking forward for the first LiteOn-BenQ burners, I think they will make a boom. |

If your Philips SPD2400 works in the same way as the LiteOn 1635S, it is an excellent scanner for DVD media - it's just not a reliable scanner for CDs. Your BenQ DW1650 is a good scanner for CD media - it will show C1 errors and Jitter. For C2 errors it will AFAIK only show the worst kind of C2 (E32 errors a.k.a. CU), so although the BenQ is a good CD quality scanner, it is probably not the most "sensitive" CD scanner. It would be a much better choice for CD scanning than your Philips SPD2400, however.

| @ DrageMester sorry, I've caused for misunderstanding, have to learn much more english I wanted to say that I've decided to buy one more burner next to LG GSA-4163B which should be a good scanner (if it would be a good burner too, it would be superb ). so I had to make a decision between Philips SPD2400 and BenQ DW1650, and selected the Philips, I don't have a BenQ . as a conclusion, it won't make a sense to send a SPD2400's cd scans |

You could use the SPD2400 for CD quality scans, because any CD that looks bad in a quality scan on that drive would be really bad. The problem is that a bad quality CD may also look good when scanned in such a drive. If I were in your shoes, I would probably stick to using just Read Transfer tests instead of performing CD quality scans on a drive that isn't really suitable for it, but that's entirely up to you.

The same disc scanned with Benq 1650 and with Liteon CD-R SOHR-5239V. Benq shows a coaster, Litey reports a quite good disc. Michael |

My point in the post above however, is that LiteOn DVD burners (and their OEM equivalents) are not very useful as CD quality scanners. Your comparison is of a LiteOn CD-RW burner used as a scanner vs. a BenQ DVD burner, so although you have a similar experience in your comparison, it's not the same comparison that I made.

| no clue about the scanning capabilities of your drive but from my long experience with Princo discs (cd and dvd) they are of very low quality and therefore quite unreliable. |
