The 4167 was donated to the guy upstairs. And yeah, I'll try them on my E10N

The Litey did better, only being slightly out of spec PIF wise, and a perfect TRT.

I think the Sammy's problem with it might be firmware related.

Any reason why I returned the 165P6S unit responsible for this wonderful @12X MCC004 burn?

Do you mean 1635S or 165P6S? ...I'm assuming the latter

Either way, that's pretty painful for MCC004

Now to try them on my E10N and 165P6S...won't bother with my 1640 'cos it only gives them a default strat.
I think that's a firmware issue - the error levels rise and fall sharply.

Thanks Arachne - it's very useful to know NOT to buy these, as I was half tempted myself the other week (being soooo out of touch with media these days ).

Clearly a travesty of the RICOHJPN name though . BTW does the ..."JPN" in the MID have any relevance? This looks like nothing that ever dared to emanate from Japan...

It should be RITEKTWN instead if it was supposed to mention the factory and not the company selling these...
I think the JPN is just there for historical reasons

But Ricoh does indeed make some DL media in Japan, however it's rare and most likely only available in Japan.

Hmm, IS DL media, it may be a similar situation as TY 16x media was/is and some other 16x media currently appears to be. A combination of (Ritek) QC & poor firmware support. Hopefully both will be better in the future.

Yep, I can't say that "LiteOn burners and Franck" sounds like a love story.. - just bad luck I guess, but from now on I'll stick exclusively to scanning purposes with the Liteys.

I'll just add that I had the same TYG01 problem with my LG4167B as Arachne did.

The discs just arent supported well by the LG. I had unreadable discs no matter what. The Pioneer 111L burnt them fine though.

Fell in my hands today: a Memorex DVD-R 4X - I totally blame this disaster on my 401S@811S though - it's got the hallmark swirls in the burn surface

Hehehe...feeling pretty bored, so I decided to scan some discs I burned a month ago.

To be fair, this one didn't scan too well @4x either back then, so I'm guessing it was on it's path of deterioration before I burned it. Edit: it's a Ridisc Xtreme disc BTW.

I included a TRT because strangely my 4551A had no problems reading it
