| Plextor PX-708A 8X write quality and strategy. For this small test I'll use all different types of 8X capable 4X discs and use the create data disc function in CD-Speed. I'll scan the discs with two different Lite-On drives so we could look at the produced results ![]() Plextor PX-708A, F/W 1.01, 4,38Gb. | Nice, that's the best proof of what I've been repeating about C1/C2/PI/PO errors not being on the disc, and it will hopefully encourage scan freaks to be more cautious when comparing plots from different drives. |

| Thanks for your comment spath. Please comment more on posts like this as then I may be able to learn something from a way more technical person than me. ![]() Yes, it seems like Lite-On DVD-writers, DVD-ROMs and Combo drives do all report PI/PO errors different.....and the worst thing is...there is no system on which discs which drives like...it depends on writespeed, writer and disc brand.... ![]() This is a huge problem for our new DVD media test forum as different people have different drives and this makes comparing results difficult

| So you say that we should limit the dvd media testforum to scans from one drivetype only? Nope we will not do that.....

Well, you'd rather explain then what exactly you meant in your statment "This is a huge problem for our new DVD media test forum as different people have different drives and this makes comparing results difficult" ? I mean, what a problem ? People are supposed to have different drives and different media. Otherwise what's the purpose with being involved in the process of gathering and evaluating all the different data coming from different sources ? So, aren't the problems you're "facing" what you have been expected ? | |

| I seem to be running into similar problem. I wanted to do an extensive DVD±R test for which I have two identical computers. One is fitted with the Plextor 708 (and Lite-On 166), the other with the Sony DRU-510 (and also Lite-On 166). Testing the exact same media I get very different results. The Plextor drive creates reproducable graphs - between 3 DVDs I burnt, the graph only deviates with a small margin. The Sony however, produces completely different graphs each time. None of the DVDs "look alike". I'm at a loss on how to continue. Why are the results so damn different... |
