    Nice site.

Very useful for matching up blank media sold in the shops to media codes before buying. Pity they don't have any Maxells on there.

Not bad. For Germany there's InstantInfo and their subsidiary MediaMatch as a VideoHelp alternative.

They're just copying the info from DVD Identifier or similar. The serial indicates that that particular disc is Optodisc

Fortis with TY code is 100% fake....I think Fortis was one of the first TY fakes on the Japanese market.
On the Site have a look at Sunny....The disc in the pic says Made In China but the MID is TY......

My Fortis design looks like the TY-fake(or the Sony-fake), except no
speed cert. printed on it and no codes on the silver spin.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:Auvistar]
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [Auvistar Industry Co. Ltd.]
    Manufacturer ID : [Auvistar]
    Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)]
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was burnt on 07.2003 and just backed it up on a new TDK (no errors).
That's about my oldest apart from a few white PRINCOs (they hold up fine too)

Of course many of those are fakes like these Taiyo Yudens Made in Italy(!)

this particular re-seller English homepage is a real howler:
