| Optimal Writing Speed: 12x (With a Plex) I read an article in which some "anonymous expert" declared that the perfect match for 0% error writing whould be a Plextor 12x10x32 drive and 12x speed certified media. The reasons were not really mentioned, so I ask the "regulars" to explain why is this true, or why is this bulls**t. Thanks

| All i can offer is that Plextors have long been known for excellent writing quality over almost all media... much higher standards with lower quality media than cheaper drives can produce. Plextors also have very good firmware, so im guessing that the Anonymous Expert must have some insight that the 12x firmware is the best of the lot. I wouldn't think 12x certified media would be the best. Perhaps higher speed media.. :\ 24x.. 16x.. even 32x - but not 12.. :\ unless of course it was a Kodak gold ![]() I would also question how old this is. There could now be a drive that surpasses the Plextor 1210 in write quality

| Plex 12x and 8x had the best writing quality according to this article http://www.digit-life.com/articles/cdrw5/index.html but the recorders compared are not the newest.I have also concluded that plextors writing quality seem to be very very good and only yamaha and teac are close to them (i dont say other manufacturers dont make drives with high writing quality).

| The 12x speed is probably the best because it doesn't produce as many errors that are done at high speeds but is still reasonably fast to satisfy the consumer. But I dont think that there is much of a difference between the 16x plex and the 12x plex. The basic drift of the Dvorak's column was about how at faster speeds cd's are more dangerous and produce many errors. I think the reason why he doesnt give a reason is because he doesnt have anything to back up his assertion. If you have good media, your drive should be fine even if it isnt a 12x.
