Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

After the last sale on the 30-pack of Sony Music CD-Rs at my local Walgreens, they went OOS for a week.

I just stopped in at Walgreens to grab a quick snack and what do I see...all the Sony Music CD-Rs are now MIT!

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Please tell me this isn't some sort of permanent change!

When will this madness end?!

Re: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Or try Target...but be prepared to pay $20 per 50 discs. It was well worth it for me--I wanted some Sony-branded TY CD-R, anyway-- but it might be a bit expensive for others, and your Target might not have the same dead stock as this one [which still has a 16x IOMagic drive ].

Office Depot may or may not have dead stock Maxell Pro CD-R, too, if you don't mind the price.

All Sony AND Maxell music CD-R I found at Wal-Mart recently were made in Taiwan, and [as we all know] no longer has Maxell Pro CD-R.

I forgot that Wal-mart no longer carried Maxell CD-R Pro/Photo.

Other places still have the 25-pack of Maxell CD-R Pro/Photo, the trick is finding it on sale. Office Depot used to have it on sale now and then, and if it happens again, I'll have to stock up.

The key for me is the price. I'm willing to pay $10 for 25 pieces, which comes out to $40 per 100, but much more than that and it starts to get ridiculous. I might as well just buy unbranded TY CD-Rs online.

It's not so much about the specific store, I'm just wondering if this signals some kind of permanent switch, meaning that Sony will no longer use TY at all.

It happened over two years ago with the DVDs, but the CD-Rs were still hanging in there. Now, they're going away.

Re: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

It seems as if every thing is changing to junk MIC,MIT and where ever else media now days like it has been
said before "it is a race to see who can get to the bottom first" It is all about the profit margins now
days the cheaper they can make it and still sell it to us at full price the more money goes into their pockets.
I would rather pay a little more money for the product and know 100% for sure that I was receiving a good
quality disc as to pay the same as always and receive crap discs.

Re: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Checked the local Office Depot to see what kinds of media they had in stock. They still had some Maxell Pro Video cds that were Taiyo Yuden. Their price was $24.95 for 25 cds.

All the rest of the media was junk. I couldn't believe the high prices they had on their wonderful Memorex DL disks. They ought to be sued for even selling those.

I also checked the local Office Depot, also to see what kinds of media they had in stock. In addition to the aforementioned (and "overpriced") Maxell Pro CD-R's made by Taiyo Yuden (and those 'wonderful' Memorex DL disks that weren't as severely overpriced as what Best Buy charges for them), I found 'bulk'-packaged Imation-branded media for $9.99 in 100-pack CD-R's or 50-pack DVD-R's or DVD+R's - much cheaper than even the Office Depot house brand! I had expected these particular Imation-branded disks to be made by some junk-media company - but lo and behold, they were made in Taiwan by RiTEK (RRD80M series stamper codes on the CD-R's, RITEKF1 MID codes on the DVD-R's and RITEK F16 MID codes on the DVD+R's). In my experience, RiTEK-made media has been a step below what I've been getting from Taiyo Yuden or MCC/MKM.
