How does media burnt in your BenQ at 8x scan in the Lite-ON? as that would help show wether it was drive related or not. It is just strange it occurs at nearly the same exact point for all 3 scans you posted, on 3 different media

I'll burn a couple of discs today and find out for you. I'll post them here.

They'll be Maxell RICOHJPN R03, hope no-one minds the OT

This Maxell RitekG05 was burned with my faithful BTC burner about one year ago, and I now scanned it with my Lite-on. My BTC burns well, but not as good as my Lite-on. I'm unsure what to make of this scan, because I dont know what this scan would have looked like a year ago. Do you think that these PIEs will soon turn into PIFs?

For the record, even though I use them as throwaway disks, my OFFICE DEPOT brand G05s do NOT degrade. In fact, I've never read any reports of OD brand G05s degrading. Just an FYI.

Not so sure seeing the results platinum and philips can get with RitekR05.

I should specify, I've only used RiDATA and Maxell RitekG05s. Both of which have degraded on me, with the Maxell's being the lesser of two evils, but also note the RiDATA discs are older, therefore have more time to degrade. What I should do is keep scanning the disc I mentioned above every month from now on, to see whether it is degrading or possibly my BTC was to blame. If the above disc is not degrading (which I highly doubt) that would imply that not all Maxell Ritek G05s degrade. It's interesting that your Staples RitekG05s didn't degrade, have you scanned any of your discs that are a year old to make sure?

Here you go

8x burn on the BenQ, scanned on the Litey - same jitter jump (which I also observed when scanning discs burned with my LG earlier), so I still say it's a scanning thing

Try performing your jitter scan at 4x. For my 5S and 6S drives, the jitter scans at higher speeds are not trustworthy (they show a waveform for jitter that is constant when scanned at lower speeds or in other drives).

You should also try the new TA Jitter scan. I suggest using 1x for those (the time used is the same and is dominated by the spin-up time).

Does anyone know what the scoop is on these? http://blankmedia.ca/proddetail3.asp?id=1200
They look promising, especially if these ones don't degrade like their other G05s.

I don't know anything about them, but previous G05 experience would make me steer clear.

Well, actually the most major cause of disc failure is dye degradation.
And golden media is not always better anyway.
Avoid any RITEK G05 if possible.

Is it true that there is a gold layer in that disc? Yes I believe that.

Will it help make one of the fastest degrading DVD media ever produced into an archival grade media? You gotta be kidding me!

If RiTEK can't produce RITEK G05 media that consistently last as long as media made by competing companies such as e.g. Mitsubishi/Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Maxell and CMC, then why should we trust this to change just because they add a gold reflective layer? The reflective layer isn't the only thing that can degrade in a DVD - the dye can degrade also.

I'd rather trust the gold protective layer in my recently purchased Verbatim Archival Grade media to make the already very good and stable MCC 02RG20 media even more stable (and scratch resistant).

Also a gold reflective layer has lower reflectivity than a silver reflective layer, so it's more difficult to read right from the start.

This reminds me of what Optodisc has been doing, although their older -R discs had problems their recent +R media has really been performing well. Hopefully they prove to be stable media in both brands.
