Thanks - I've sent CD-RMedia a question about it. I want to be absolutely sure I'm receiving RITEK P16, as theres a chance of receiving RICOHJPN R03, which is extremely poor.

My burns have deteriorated pretty rapidly... the first three discs off the top of my 100 pack were like the one I posted. Then they suddenly started getting very high PIE. This is not the drive as I have tried on multiple drives and they are similar on all of them.

Transfer curve is fine.

Burned at 8x with BenQ 1655, Solidburn On Kn, Ukn, Overspeed On.

I think that burn is respectable, since the TRT is fine too. I tend not to worry too much about PIE unless they're really high.

Having said that, I think Ritek is "variable" anyway.

That is a Ridata disc though, and Ridata aren't known for really being high quality. I would never buy more than a 25 tub of media in case it was a bad batch.

O/T

Here's a link to the other MID that Ridisc uses for their 16x +R Xtreme range, RICOHJPN R03.

http://media.bitburners.com/en/media...icohjpn_r03_1/

http://media.bitburners.com/en/media.../ricohjpn_r03/

I think it's obvious why I only want RITEK P16.

@Arachne - I guess the only thing that bothers me is if the PIEs will eventually turn into PIFs as the discs age. I am going to test playback on my standalone players to see if they pixelize.

@Kevatcrewe - Overall, I almost always get the best results from 25 packs of most retail media. However, there is usually a pricing difference.

IMO, the dye itself is not really the primary source of why 4x/8x Ritek media has fast degradation issues as I have samples of G05 which are still readable near 2 years old! So just using a stable dye means nothing if other factors in the manufacture are sub-optimal.

But ridata and ridisc are the same thing right? Ritek P16 as the pictures indicate. So are you saying that Ridata uses crappy Ritek P16 and Ridisc uses good Ritek P16?

@ TLO, I agree you are right, there's plenty of other things that can go wrong and be of lower quality that would contribute to a disc degrading

Ridata are a Ritek owned brand name, and Ridisc are a brand of E-Net Distribution. They are completely different. I also never said that Ridisc uses *good* discs, it's just that for them the results are far above expectation so far as they usually use B-grade discs. Also, Ridata's discs are variable aswell from what I have seen.

Another Ritek Ridata Ritek P16 burned at 8x (sb on uk/kn, wopc on, os on) with the Benq 1655 from a 100 pack. Playback seemed fine on my standalone players. PIE seems too high for my liking...but transfer curve was still perfect.

Try burning some test discs, please Arachne. I'd like to see if they're any better than the ones I had .

I've sent a few emails around to some web stores to see if any of the Ridisc Xtreme 16x DVD+R discs they stock are indeed RITEK P16 and not RICOHJPN R03. Sadly, from the replies so far, they seem to only have RICOHJPN R03 dye, and I'm not willing to take the risk in case I do indeed receive RICOHJPN R03

The PIE is 200k total which is not that high. PIF is fairly low also. Jitter is also ok. It's a decent burn.

I'll burn a couple later on - one of each.

I changed my lite-on firmware and now I'm getting really good burn results. I've always had decent burns with Ridata except a batch I once bought last year, which were RitekG05, but they had white printable tops. They were absolute garbage, and I never bought those again. Lately I've been buying Maxell 8X DVD-Rs which are also RitekG05. [FYI: My experience with Maxell is 8X DVD-Rs with thin cake box bottoms are RitekG05. Maxell 16X DVD-Rs get you either RitekF1, or ProDisc, which aren't as good] Below is a scan of a Maxell RitekG05 I burned the other day at 4x. The reason I burned this at 4x is because my Xbox doesn't like 8x burned DVDs, even though my Lite-on burns better at 8x. =b

Do you check you're old G05 for degradation at all? Some G05's degrade pretty quickly, and as you can never tell which discs degrade, it's widely regarded here as some of the worst media you could buy, no matter what brand it's under.

These were the first DVDs I would always buy, because everyone at the mall I went to (Pacific Mall), would always tell me Ridata were best for PS2. So I'll scan some of my older games and post back. The reason I have been using RitekG05 still up till now, is because they usually burn well for me, and they're one of the few DVDs that work in Xbox, PS2 and GameCube.

Sadly, initially they work very well, which is why at first they look so good, but later on they die. I think G05 is good media, it's such a shame Ritek can't make it properly

Ok, so apparently I don't scan my discs for degradation!
Well this was Capcom Fighting Jam...and I keep my discs in mint condition. In all fairness though, this was burned with my other burner, and it's original firmware which sucked in the begining. Do you think that plays a part in this disaster? It's a BTC burner, and it now burns really well, but maybe it didn't like the RitekG05s in the begining. I'm going to do some more scans and start making a "ReBurn" pile of my discs.
