Hi! Felt really bad about the Imation (CMC) 25 spindle pack i bought so i went out got myself 25 pieces of Acer discs. Nero identifies them as:

Acer Media Technology Inc:5

Do Acers have good quality media? Whats the difference between the Acer Gold that OC-Freac mentioned. Mines colored silver.

Anyway, There are some Prodisc CD-Rs here that are pretty cheap. Around 12 US cents each. How do these brands fare? Which would actually be a better choice, the Acer or the Prodiscs. They cost about the same, around 28 US cents each. Heres what Nero reads:

Prodisc Technology Inc:9

One last thing, the shop i bought my other stuff had a spindle pack of Kodak Gold Ultima with Info Guard. I hear Kodaks are the best but i was skeptical of the low price so i bought just one to check it out. According to Nero 5, it is made by:

Digital Storage Technology Co Ltd:0

I've never tried Kodaks before so i need to know if this is genuine or it should read Kodak manufacturing or something.

Thanks again!

KEN

Ken, please refer to my comment on the thread of mine you bumped up.

I've had many, many Kodak disks over 5 or 6 years, and they all are identified (I use CDR Identifier 1.63) as produced by Kodak. A Kodak disk identified as made by Digital Storage Technology Co Ltd sounds like a fake to me.

Even the spindles of cheap Kodak Golds I bought here a while back, and which I thought might be fakes, were identified by CDR Identifier as made by Kodak (that's why I asked whether fakes could also fake the manufacturer in the ATIP -- no reply so far, but I'd really like to know).

Anyway, Kodak stopped making CD-R/RWs a while back, and I can't imagine that they'd allow another company to make disks under their brand-name -- and a company that (despite the apparently good 'Muji' disks they make) is probably a small, very variable quality Taiwanese outfit.

Though I'd still like some info on Digital Storage Technology Co Ltd, if anyone has any.

Those Kodak discs are not actually Digital Storage Technology, but rather 972700 - Disc ID not Present, kind of a generic ATIP. That's a misreading of Nero for sure.

I've got one of those discs at home that has worked greatly up to now.

Well, it feels like Kodak Gold and writes at the same speed, has the same error rates and definitely has infoguard on it. (I did a physical resistance test.) Seems like great discs, but I don't know if they are real Kodaks. They're sold around here as being Kodak for OEM Gold Discs.

There is only one source for the new Kodak gold patented technology for 16x drives and 52x CDR's, the latter using the latest pthalocyanine dye, and that is not from the far east. They are the market's best in my opinion, especially for archival use, and also have the scratch guard. They are not to be confused with the old 4x8x which do not have the same electrical and audio qualities, and are of an old construction.

@Borgy
You're responding to OLD threads: This one is almost 6 years old and the other one regarding Kodak media is over 2 years old.
The only think I can gather from your posts is that you're trying to vindicate KODAK's name.

Post removed, I didn't see that the Original Post was 6 years old.
