| Hi all, Those who has the LiteOn 1633S, pls drop your comment about what are the brands DVD media it likes & dislikes.  Ok, I bought a stack of OEM Verbatim ("16x" is the shop claimed but 8x is actual speed  ) DVD+R last week.This is the picture of the disc, no lable, blk color.  I use Nero to generate a test disc and ran it for PIPO. Also use KProbe to test. 1st is Nero 2nd KProbe ran on Max speed 3rd KProbe ran on 8x 4th KProbe ran 4x What do you think of this DVD+R? | Beside the Ritek, I aslo got a couple of 8x brands. One of the media is Ever Media. Nice print out on the disc BUT, it's a pc of JUNK!  (I cut 2 discs to confirm that!) Look at the manufacturer, what is a plastic factory to do with DVD disc? Nero couldn't do a scan but I used KProbe no problem. | Sold as BenQ in JW, OEM by Daxon. Consider a very good product as shown from the Nero & KProbe. I didn't have a good impression on BenQ media but it did suprise me by the result frm my LiteOn 1633S. I don mind to get a spindle frm my local shop! | This media sold as CyQ've, oem by Ricoh. I bought this media last weekends also. Not bad from Nero & KProbe result. Only slight went up at the end of the disc. But not cheap, I got it as JW. | Here is my summary; for these tests, I just used 8x media. It’s pointless to test less than 8x speed and now, the 16x is already available. Although I did manage to get some of the 8x branded media because some of them are not available at my local stores or only sell on spindles. You will notice that most of the posted results are based on max. speed. The point is to test the performance of the hardware(the burner) and the media! From technical point of view; if you get the low error on PIPO result at max. burnt speed, it means the burner has good performance. Again it’s pointless to use low speed for testing. If you want to go at low speed, then might as well get the lower speed burner at lower cost!  From the tested results, the best performance is BenQ. The BenQ DVD+R is likely tailored to BenQ burner(its OEM from Lite-On). That’s why it’s better performance than others. The Ritek is bad at this round, compared to TDK. TDK did better  and both is made by Ricoh. My Lite-On 1633S’s firmware is using “Codeguy” ‘s BS0H and no other tweak is added. I did compare with the Lite-On official release firmware BS0K when I flashed last weekends. “Codeguy” ‘s BS0H performed better. Not much, about 10% difference.(not very sure but will try again the BS0K) Still I prefer “Codeguy”’s firmware because it’s better. |
