Blank Media Discuss, Maxell 80XL-S odd problem (Nero / Plex Premium) at Consumables forum; I have an odd problem when using my Plextor Premium (fw 1.03) with Nero 5.5.10.42 on Maxell CD-R 80XL-S 48x 700 Mb media, for which the ATIP reads as follows (it doesn't matter which drive I use to get the ATIP data): ATIP info from disk - Read by Feurio

I have an odd problem when using my Plextor Premium (fw 1.03) with Nero 5.5.10.42 on Maxell CD-R 80XL-S 48x 700 Mb media, for which the ATIP reads as follows (it doesn't matter which drive I use to get the ATIP data):

ATIP info from disk - Read by Feurio 1.66.2ß
Recorder: LITE-ON - LTR-52246S
ATIP start of lead in: -02:44:58 (sector: -12358)
ATIP start of lead out: 79:59:70 (sector: 359995)
Manufacturer code: 97 15 17 - Ritek Co. (Type: 7)
Unrestriced use: No
Disc type: Not Rewriteable
Disc subtype: Medium Type A, low Beta category (A-)
Target writing power: 4

When I try to burn 79.49.67 worth of audio on that disc using Nero, I get the following odd error:

Overburn Writing dialog

The disc IS empty (I've tried several of them and all report the same error). They burn totally without any problems on my LiteOn 48246S with the same aforementioned audio data and using the same Nero (on the same computer/OS).

If I read the disc capacity in Nero using Plextor Premium I get the following data (pay attention to available capacity):

Empty Disc capacity in Plextor Premium

When I read the disc capcity in Nero using LiteOn 48246S I get the following data:

Empty Disc Capacity in LiteOn 48246S

I have not personally run into this before and couldn't find help using the search.

Is it normal to get the kind of "overburning error dialog" even when I have my Nero Overburning set to 90 minutes and when the burning project length (including gaps) does not exceed the nominal capacity of the disc?

Further, is it normal to get different "Available capacity" information with various drives with Nero for a particular CD-R?

Can somebody suggest what is going on and is there something wrong with my Plextor and how it handles this particular disc type?

cheers,
Halcyon

I could not get this solved and it only happens in Nero (not in any other program), so I've reported it as a bug to Ahead (GER).

Very odd, indeed.
